I have been working at Gersh Agency full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Same pros as any agency - you will make friends and connections with people your own age who are starting off in the industry. Some of the agents are genuinely good people who just enjoy the work. Access to material (scripts, information) before other areas in Hollywood.

    Cons

Lack of diversity - there are a handful of non-white agents at the company, and those in power do not seem to see this as an issue. The pay is extremely low, the 401k does not match your contribution. HR is a bureaucratic nightmare that is run by effectively one person who is cruel and lacks concern for employees (i.e. an assistant being refused time off to attend her mother's funeral). Harassment from agents and poor interpersonal relationships between assistants and their agents are commonplace - your experience is only as good as your agent is kind. You come across far fewer opportunities here than you would at a bigger agency - your agency experience is really the only asset for future growth that you gain here, and your next job will likely not come from the work the agency does or the clients that it represents.

I worked at Gersh Agency full-time

    Pros

If you work for a good agent, it's fine. They pay better than most of the other agencies.

    Cons

No substantive HR and there was unreported harassment

I worked at Gersh Agency full-time

    Pros

Great for learning names and companies around town, but it's definitely a stepping stone to something bigger and brighter.

    Cons

Pay is extremely low and the upward mobility just isn't there if you're not on the right desk. You'll definitely experience the "screamy agent" personality on 3/4 of the desks there.

I worked at Gersh Agency full-time

    Pros

You might lose weight from all the crying you do during/after work. DO NOT WORK HERE AS AN ASSISTANT unless you have no soul and are on track to be an agent. That said, I made some friends that I still keep in touch with. Something about mutual suffering can really bond people.

    Cons

Constant verbal abuse, no overtime, tedious tasks, very little opportunity to grow.

I worked at Gersh Agency full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

As a mini major, it's a fast pace, high energy workplace like any other talent agency, but not insane. There's room to find your stride if you keep a clear head. Great foundational experience of the industry, opportunity to learn a lot, and learn from the ground up. If you have a vision for yourself, even better to engage from an added perspective. That viewpoint from having something of your own you're working toward, and/ or are recognized for, only helps you stand out as you build relationships and people get to know you.

    Cons

It can be difficult /take a long time to move up and you want to grow within the company. There can be some back stabbing, or the sense of a need to watch your back, as with all agencies.

I worked at Gersh Agency full-time

    Pros

Big agency feel in a smaller environment. Started a structured mailroom program which is actually useful.

    Cons

Find young talent, build their careers, then lose them to the big four agencies.
