I have been working at Ghirardelli Chocolate full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

great benefits and lots of opportunities to move within the company, not just the same department. company seems to like to hire from within, which is a huge pro. Company seems to be caring more about the employees and being very transparent. Before meetings were three times a year, now we have monthly breakfast meetings that talk about the state of the business.

    Cons

even though the culture is changing, from a process and systems perspective we're still 15 years behind. This makes it very challenging for people to do their job and sometimes people spend more time doing manual work than their actual job. We need to invest in the right things.

    Advice to Management

    Invest in the right technology
    be better at prioritizing projects
Find better ways to keep top talent

I have been working at Ghirardelli Chocolate full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You work for a chocolate company

    Cons

*Part of the Lindt group so forget about a promotion from within unless you come from Lindt (somewhere from Europe)
*Employees have a low shelf life so the ones that stay are underrated as well as burned out
*Most managers are incompetent technically as well as psychologically, pompous, cannot think rationally & driving people out (there's a trend)
*Salaries are average for the bay area
    *employee appreciation is missing

    Advice to Management

Leadership does not know how to empower or motivate. They want to get rid off people instead. Fear does not motivate anyone.

I have been working at Ghirardelli Chocolate full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

-Great people (everyone is super friendly and there is a big mix of different cultures and ethnicities)
    -Lots of free chocolate
    -Fun onboarding process
    ...Did I mention free chocolate

    Cons

-There seems to be a lot of turnover which means that a lot of people are doing more than one job for an extended period of time until someone is hired, if someone is hired
-Very low pay, especially for the Bay Area
-I am not sure about all departments but the one I work in is very unorganized. It could be because we are understaffed but for an organization that has been around for so long I expected processes and procedures to be better than what it would be at a startup company
-I enjoyed the onboarding process but felt it lacked practical knowledge needed for working here (how parking works, information on benefits, how the fitness program works, etc.)
-In addition to a more practical onboarding, the setting up and execution of benefits was very lacking. It could just be one instance but everything was a lot harder than it should be and it could be because of the separation of HR and payroll but this should really be addressed.
-During the hiring process they really talk up the bonus but after being here I come to find out that you only get it based on if the company meets certain targets.

    Advice to Management

-Figure out the turnover problem and make sure each department has enough manpower to get the things done that you want them to do
-Set more realistic targets if that is what you are planning to base bonus payouts on
