I worked at Ghirardelli Chocolate part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Friendly coworkers
    Good pay
    Friendly shift managers

    Cons

    Poor Head Management
    Tense working environment

    Advice to Management

The shift managers were never the problem. But the lead manager of both stores in the area was very disrespectful to the employees and spoke to us as if we were children rather than adults.

I worked at Ghirardelli Chocolate part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They are patient when you are new but also expect you to step up to help you become a better employee. It's a fun environment and they will help you grow throughout your time in the company.

    Cons

Sometimes the scheduling is weird and can demand a lot from you. You just have to continue to assert and communicate clearly your capacity.

I worked at Ghirardelli Chocolate full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Most people are friendly, good discount (50%) on products that aren't co-manufactured, stepping stone company (could be a pro/con depending on how you look at it) since you can learn a few things here and then move on to something better. Benefits package is ok (United Healthcare low or high deductible, not the best). 401k match after 5 years. Business casual dress and jeans are ok except with the Swiss come into town. CEO is very personable and friendly, talks to everyone in the office not just the management team. Free coffee, fruit in the mornings, and there's almost always leftover lunch from lunch meetings. 18 FTO days a year (combined sick and vacation which could also be a pro/con depending on you personally).

    Cons

High turnover, probably due to lack of learning opportunities, low pay for the bay area (based on San Leandro pay versus San Francisco), poor communication with people in the office between leaders and their staff as well as in the field and lack of visibility to what it's like out in the field, antiquated systems for inventory and sales analysis, no opportunities for transfers to the other sister companies (Lindt and Russell Stover) yet Lindt folks get to come from New Hampshire, Switzerland, etc. It's also a red flag when half the HR department up and leaves within 3 months of each other, so you could say there's definitely "growing pains" going on right now. If you come in as lower level staff don't expect any movement (lateral or vertical) for at least 2-3 years. Could really use some more diversity in the director level staff and especially management.

    Advice to Management

Actually INVEST in your people, like the company claims. Provide actual opportunities for learning and development and tell management to encourage growth of their staff to keep them around for longer than a year. Upgrade the crusty old systems so that people aren't spinning their wheels for hours a day trying to get accurate data when it's requested by management at the drop of a hat.

    Pros

    Good benefits and 401k match

    Cons

Out of touch with store level

    Advice to Management

Ask stores about time frames and keep in mind they are operating a store not on a 9-5 schedule

I have been working at Ghirardelli Chocolate full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Amazing, well known brand
    - Free Chocolate & sometimes Sundae's!
    - Great/ fun on-boarding process
    - Summer hours! Off at 2pm every Friday from Memorial day to labor day!
    - CEO is awesome, engages conversation with everyone in the company, not just upper management
    - Coworkers are all positive and fun!
    - Free fruit/coffee/snacks and always extra food in the kitchen if you forget your lunch
    - Room for growth, it is a surprisingly small company and I believe there is a lot of upward mobility & opportunities for growth for the right employees

    Cons

    - Pay is a little lower than surrounding Bay Area jobs/ companies
    - Not as many company sponsored events as I have had in the past, would love to interact with co-workers outside mt department more often
    - You have to be your own advocate (and be persistent) for advancement
    - Not all departments have the same mindset, some may have work/life balance while others may not
