I have been working at Ghirardelli Chocolate (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Most colleagues are honest, hardworking and great assets to the company.

    Cons

Management can lack integrity and have no interest in helping others grow professionally.

    Advice to Management

Invest in holding everyone accountable for success and failures. Build a department where growth of people and careers are also a focus. Treat people fairly and really embrace an open door policy for communication because having conversations move down the chain rather than up is not a successful method.
The CEO could follow standard social etiquette and make an effort to engage with employees when he walks around the office.

    Pros

A lot of chocolate to eat in the corporate office.
    A lot of lunch meetings.
    CEO cares about company values.

    Cons

Upper management team totally disconnected with the people.
    Cut throat middle management staff.
Very weak HR presence. HR does not address issues employees may have with managers/directors.

    Advice to Management

HR needs to stop ignoring employee issues. It is disheartening that HR ignores conflicts people may have with their managers/directors.

    Pros

During the first 2 years, management was great. I would do overtime without any hesitation. All employees treated each other like their family.

    Cons

Management went downhill after our GM left. Also, during busy seasons, we never have enough staff.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees like how you want to be treated.

I worked at Ghirardelli Chocolate full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits, co-workers and product. Brand has a good reputation. Had high hopes when I started, but that changed with this CEO. Can move to other positions within the company and its encouraged.

    Cons

Senior management directs teams what to do because they don't trust their teams and are not supportive. Out of room, but they keep hiring. There are desk in the halls, people in closets and in front of bathrooms. People are literally on top of each other, no room, but there is enough money for CEO to get an electric station for his new tesla at the front door. Double standards and the place is run by emotion not business sense.

    Advice to Management

Support the folks who are working hard to do a good job and turnover will go down

I worked at Ghirardelli Chocolate full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The only pro is that you have access to the food product that they sell.

    Cons

    - Upper management is ruthless and uncaring to the needs of its staff
-if you're not a well-liked employee, you get closing shifts every day
    -disjointed days off
    - the closing shifts are honestly the worst. you're on your feet all day and have to get through hundreds of customers in the same fake voice, and you have to upsell their Illinois-shipped cookies and fly-infested strawberries- if the customer declines, you have to try upselling them overpriced water bottles. If that still fails, you have to upsell their crappy resuable bags. You have to repeat the same thing every couple of minutes with a smile. It's really difficult to maintain because customers are often tourists and treat you like absolute crap.

    - you are expected to "jump on register" or "hop on fountain (food prep)" anytime it gets busy. There's no real breakroom and you have eat your lunch next to garbage cans in the locker room area, or on the stairs in the hotel that this location is apart of.

-no matter how hard you work, it's not noticed. You are reprimanded if you don't upsell.

    Advice to Management

Your employees are people. Treat them as such.

I worked at Ghirardelli Chocolate full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

For the work that you're doing you get paid way too much.
For the most part co-workers are cool and relaxed.
    Fun environment to be in.
    union (kinda)

    Cons

They're a union controlled corporation so theres tons of red-tape around everything from getting direct deposit to health insurance to simply changing schedules. Also the hiring as an absolute crapshoot, it seems like hiring managers don't care about attitudes or qualifications and as a result you end up having to work with immature and unprofessional people. also being union everything is done on a seniority basis. besides one or two stars most management is unorganized and unprofessional.

    Pros

Upper management was very nice but they didnt have a framework as to what its really like behind the scenes.
    Lots of hrs
pay decent but you work for it

    Cons

    Too many supervisors
very picky about speed and consistency
alot of the trainers did not care as a matter of fact the very first words out of her mouth was " nobody cares about your feelings here" . I was like lady its ice cream not the marines.
Lake buena vista is a very busy location with alot of tourists.
Diversity is great but must be able to communicate effectively in a loud environment.
I was very claustrophobic and felt damned if you do and damned if you dont
