    Pros

Associates, discount, never a dull moment

    Cons

Management, pay, hours are subject to change on any given day. If you are scheduled to 12 expect 1am. And no additional compensation for working 3rd shift.

    Advice to Management

Get on one page. No two managers will give you the same answer. If associates work past 12 am they should be paid a 3rd shift premium.

    Pros

Ghirardelli has the potential to be a great company. The re-investment into the company is 2nd to none. The growth of the company during these poor economic times shows the product value.

    Cons

Purely a politically run company, high management turnover! Managers can't perform without support. No support given to new and innovative ideas and or independent thinkers.
Open and hostel harassment if one doesn't follow the political agenda.
Advancement is based on political agenda as apposed to job performance. Open favoritism to the politically correct.
I've never experienced a company that has lost so many great employees to hold on to a culture of elitism. Promote ineffective managers with no practical experience and poor interpersonal skills. Seems like starting over every time. This culture leaves the employees with a sense of failure. Employees communicate their ideas only to find out later their ideas were implemented and recognition given to his or her manager. Speaking out will come at a significant cost!
Manufacturing improvement are limited to longer hours of operation as apposed to solid operational improvements. Employees work as robots without management representation, speaking out will cause serious repercussions and negatively affect careers.

    Advice to Management

Allow free thinking without the threat of repercussions. The Company manufactures chocolate its not the white house. Politics should to placed aside to allow for balance discussion of issues and improvements.
I challenge the CEO to investigate the reason so many managers have left the company!
CEO is responsible for the growth of the company, this is understood. The performance for the manufacturing of the product is important as well. Truly look at the operations management team and determine if its a thriving culture or is it a culture being strangled by poor upper management performance.

    Pros

There are some great bright spots within this organization. The paid time off, health care and 401K are in line with many of the top tier food manufacturers in the country. There are some departments, such as IT, Project Management, Marketing and Recruiting that are stocked full of talented, thoughtful professionals who take pride in their work.

    Cons

While some groups are led well, others have leadership that lacks the strategic agility, vision, inspiration and competence to successfully develop talent and lead their function as a successful part of organization. This company likes to recruit talent from top tier companies or academic institutions, particularly in the technical field, but does little to support and enable these folks to do what they do best. The office is also overcrowded and the location is far from San Francisco, but there is ample, secured parking on site.

    Advice to Management

You have feedback that former and current employees have been willing to leave for you. Act on it. It's time to assess the aspects of your organization and leadership that demonstrates a pattern of dis-engaged employees, leadership through fear and intimidation and lack of competence and make the changes necessary to continue to succeed. Your brand is great and well respected; add some fun and take the opportunity to grow your people and your success will be without limit.

    Cons

The reason this company often hires people on the spot is because the turnover rate is obnoxiously high! This is not a bad place to work for perhaps a college semester, but you will be miserable if you think a job here will potentially lead to a career or anything more. Management changes every year or so and often hires seasonal workers from other countries so that they can underpay them. Additionally, HR is a joke so don't even bother bringing up any issues.

    Advice to Management

Restructure your entire management system, assuming the company isn't beyond repair at this point.

    Pros

It's a no brainer job. It could be fun, talking with guests. For full time employment the health care benefits are good.

    Cons

Absolutely no brain growth, very demeaning job. No rewards, very controlled, very disorganized company, extremely high turn over within management, and very low pay. Company is open 7days a week open every holiday, work every weekend and into late hours of the evening. On your feet all day. Absolutely no rewards or motivation for any one.

    Advice to Management

Make sure you know exactly what you are in for, get in writing. Every management, General Managers are all given false hopes. Insist on talking to employees and other managers prior to accepting any offers. Ask why 10 managers either walked off the job or just quit with months of employment.

    Pros

Summer hours in San Leandro are nice and really good people within nearly all corporate functions. It's a strong brand and you see a great deal of pride in the brand from all employees.

    Cons

Really disappointing and concerning that Ghirardelli is a brand that is positioned primarily at women yet there are very few women in leadership roles within the company. Many examples of capable women getting passed over for less capable men. So many talented women have left in the last several years. Another one gave notice this week. Doesn't seem to have been noticed by executives and certainly has not been addressed.

And there is a disconnect between the CEO and executives and the rest of the employees. The corporate office has been overcrowded for years yet nothing of substance has been done to address it. There is lip service to it in company meetings but nothing happens.

Also, seems that the company overly focuses on sales, often at the expense of profits (e.g., spend $1.50 to bring in $1.00 of sales). Don’t get the feeling that the CEO fully understands his P&L below the sales line.

    Advice to Management

Start really listening to employees concerns and take real action to address them. Focus on the glass ceiling – work to retain talented women and recruit talented women. Figure out how to retain talent on the retail side of the business in light of the recent exodus. Figure out the office dilemma this year.

    Pros

Perks you receive for working at Disneyland- free entrance pass

    Cons

    Horrible management
Leads think they're above the regular workers. If you have a problem to tell to management good luck because they won't do anything to help. Leads are sharing confidential information to their friends. Workers are underpaid cross trained into different positions and are still paid $11 same as what a person who has knowledge in position gets paid. As long as you're brown nosing to them you'll be on their good side.

    Advice to Management

Make the lead positions more difficult to get. Trust your employees when they're being treated poorly. Be pro active on serious problems that happen.
