I have been working at Giant Eagle full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great benefits ! Awesome vacation turnaround in a short time of employment .

    Cons

    Company moral has gone down.

    Advice to Management

Be a team player by motivating your team instead of tearingthem down and that will cause a plus in production levels as opposed to people not wanting to come to work.

I have been working at Giant Eagle full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Decent benefits for hourly employees, heath insurance discounts if you pass certain regulations, flexible scheduling if they don't implement their new "automatic scheduling" that a computer decides.

    Cons

Pay is entirely too low. The execs say people aren't leaving because of the pay, they say people are leaving because the lack of training. That is so wrong. People are leaving because the workload is increased while the pay is limited. This year, they lowered the highest raise amount allowed, making it only possible to get a .45 raise if you were the perfect employee . They made it even harder to obtain raises. Some co-workers who have been there for years had gotten only a .10 raise, while raises in the past we're higher. How does that make sense? They took away pensions recently. Upper management of stores do not care about hourly associates unless they're 'buddies'. I have worked at 2 different stores with store leaders who never said hi to you in the morning, or asked how the department was doing unless they were speaking go the department leads. It makes for a very disconnected relationship between so called "leaders" and their teams. There is something fundamentally wrong with the way this company runs their stores. I soon see them closing most Giant Eagles and focusing more on their Get-Go's.

    Advice to Management

Make your hourly employees feel like they're worth something. A simple 3 minute conversation asking the employees that make your store happen makes all the difference to that person. Treat your employees well, and they will treat you well. Or sell the company already and move on.

I have been working at Giant Eagle full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Excellent training and advancement opportunities available for capable employees. Store management is visible and available, unsually positive and helpful. Good insurance benefits.

    Cons

Substandard pay, low morale, erratic hours for part timers. Executives are out of touch and do not allow store leaders or department heads any sort of autonomy. They want all stores selling the same products, regardless of regional demographic. Not allowing popular local products to be sold in stores because they aren't on planogram. Penny pinching corporate policies that create headaches for hourly employees without any appreciable benefit. Because of low pay and recently dropping background checks and drug testing, they are only attracting undesirable new hires. Many are lazy, quit without notice or call off frequently, which leaves more loyal employees constistenly picking up the slack. Overall these factors create a stressful and oftimes toxic work environment. In many departments you get the sense that workers are frazzled at never being able to catch up.

    Advice to Management

Higher pay for hourly employees; at least 2 of thier competitors starting wage is $11; you'd have to stay with Giant Eagle for 5 years to earn that much. Bonuses for perfect attendance, not just a drawing for a gift card but actual $$ in your paycheck.

    Pros

You get first dibs on sine in store sales. Good health care.

    Cons

Low pay. You don't get treated with respect. Management is against you. They try to cut hours and make you work a 3 person job.

    Pros

    Good hours and nice people

    Cons

Always busy and never recognized for work done.

    Advice to Management

Take a little more time to notice what your employees are actually getting done, not just what you need to do to impress your corporate bosses.
