I have been working at Giant Eagle part-time

    Pros

    -fairly flexible (if unpredictable) hours
    -easy work

    Cons

-unpredictable Sun-Sat schedule that you don't find out about until Thursday night
-managers "starve" employees by giving them fewer hours than they need to keep them "hungry" for hours so they work harder to "earn" better schedules
-managers frequently don't respect their employees as people
-getting fired by getting transferred or freezed out is common
-enough sexual harassment to make me uncomfortable happened weekly
-low pay, especially after you have experience and moderate responsibility

I worked at Giant Eagle part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great HR staff; always kind and sorted out issues quickly.

    Cons

Terrible management decisions (though I suspect corporate is to blame). Throughout the entirety of the week before Christmas 2016, a maximum of 3 cashiers were scheduled at once. On weekends, only 2 cashiers being scheduled was not an uncommon occurrence (this was at a large store in the Columbus, OH area). Also, several stores fired a lot of important staff, including the Loss Prevention representative.

    Advice to Management

Schedule people accordingly. I know Store Leaders get a bonus if hours are kept to a minimum, and I suspect that is the reason our schedule was always so atrocious. Customers hate fewer things in life than waiting in line. I know a handful of people personally that have stopped going to our local store due to this negligence.

I have been working at Giant Eagle part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The management is nice and they will work with you on any issues you may have. It’s inside work mostly.

    Cons

It takes way too long to get promoted if that’s what you’re there for. If you are someone reliable they will have you work all over the store in different departments and not pay you more.

    Advice to Management

Hire more employees so we don’t have short staff issues.

I have been working at Giant Eagle full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Variety of tasks and challenges. Love working with the foods and catering. Teaching the people that want to learn.

    Cons

Lots of overtime as a salaried employee, no real payoff for the investment of time. Short staffed especially during holidays. Glacially slow HR support. There are far too many chiefs that scatter the direction of the company.

    Advice to Management

Focus. Decide what it is you want to be in Columbus. This market is far different than Cleveland or Pittsburgh.

I worked at Giant Eagle full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

None at all if you like to be taking advantage of then it's the right place to go for sure.

    Cons

Takes advantage of all employees, with little to no rewards or recognition, very destructive managing styles . They will work you to death .

    Advice to Management

Need to be more team member oriented

I worked at Giant Eagle part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I was able to work in multiple departments of the store based on the needs of the store. I started as a cashier, and would occasionally help in the bakery or liquor department.

    Cons

Scheduling is a week by week basis, sometimes it is difficult to make plans because you are unsure of your schedule.
