I have been working at Giant Eagle part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

A 10% discount on Giant Eagle products
    Decent benefits

    Cons

The company is now run by the children of the founders, who most likely have never worked a day in a store. Massive hourly cuts have hit hard & have hurt many. A LOT of retirements were pushed/taken early, there was also a voluntary lay-off for the entire summer. There are barely any employees working during the day. What few are there, are expected by management to work 2 or 3 departments . WHY? Because Giant Eagle does not want to pay everyone. Almost everyone in the store works 2 jobs. Only the brown-nosers get bonuses. They are cutting corners everywhere and do not care how crappy the store looks. They also do not care about their customers nor their opinions. They don't listen to any complaints... All they care about is how much money they get to keep for themselves. They always give the poormouth stories, but the company averages 5 BILLION a year. They care only for $$$$$$$$.... It's very strange how they do not care how many sales they are losing to the competitors

    Advice to Management

Management needs to learn some compassion and get to know their staff. They forget that we are HUMAN Beings and have lives & family outside of work. Management is very unfriendly to most staff, but they pick & choose who they talk to. . Customers have noticed how managers are never around when needed. Much talk about being bought out by a competitor because the store conditions are so poor.

I worked at Giant Eagle full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

-Work life balance, in some departments, is second to none. Flex hours, work from home
-The company really does seem to care about its team members
    -Generous bonus plan for corporate

    Cons

-No clear strategy for the IT department; no CIO in nearly two years
-Pay is slightly above average, but compensation continues to decline
-You get the feeling that they are running out of options to compete with Walmart/Amazon/Aldi
-Influx of young "talent" in the C-suite and the departure of some of the old guard signals that some are jumping ship
-Veteran middle management (10+ years) refuses to budge, leading to clique mentality and idea stagnation

    Advice to Management

Waiting to "see what works" in the grocery industry will no longer work. Try to take risks to innovate before other industry leaders, or get squeezed out of the industry. Customer loyalty will continue to decline as others offer more convenience and cheaper prices.

I have been working at Giant Eagle full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits and a weekly paycheck.

    Cons

Pay is low compared to other companies in the area and for the most part, unless you are a pharmacist, the higher ups do not care about your input.

    Advice to Management

Consider the input from your technicians and pharmacists, the technicians interact the most with the customer and know more about how the policies ACTUALLY play into the work day..whether they are working or not, how happy people really are, the common complaints, etc. Pharmacists have great input too, I've heard it myself, but your technicians deserve better treatment...perhaps the company would not have so many open positions for technicians if we felt valued, appreciated, and fairly compensated for all the work we do.

    Pros

Long term Team -member friendship, decent pay, Opportunities for advancements.

    Cons

Little to no recognition for hard work. Management favoritism. Unrealistic hours and days off.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to recognize Front-End Team-members and bring moral up and the store would be more pleasant to not only shop at but to also work at.

I worked at Giant Eagle part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

You can have a really flexible schedule if you work on the front-end. The union benefits for healthcare are amazing and truly the only reason I stayed so long.

    Cons

They do not promote from with-in. There's tons of toxic managers and leaders. The company is going downhill fast.

    Advice to Management

    Restructure everyone at the top.
