I worked at Giant Eagle as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

A lot, I mean a lot of very nice people who try to do their best everyday.
    Nice campus environment
    WFH policies are very liberal

    Cons

Executive team is completely lost. Industry is transforming and GE is replacing a curbside application for the 3x. Small investments being made that have been trumped by the competition. No vision, no roadmap, no leadership.

    Advice to Management

You cannot cut your way to prosperity. Brain drain post layoffs will accelerate. Leadership team and family need to take a step back and assess what they want to do, how to get there and do they have the intestinal fortitude, brainpower and resources to make it happen.

I have been working at Giant Eagle full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Get paid weekly. No skills required

    Cons

Company never gives recognition. Company is all about "What have you done for us lately". When you work for this company during the Christmas Holiday you quickly find out how cheap they are. They never do any thing nice for employees during the Holiday. You always hear what nice things companies do for employees doing the Holiday season. You won't get that from Giant Eagle. They don'y like to hire employees so they run stores on the least amount of labor as possible. Job is very unrewarding. Most employees are miserable and that makes everyone miserable.

    Advice to Management

    HIRE MORE PEOPLE..

    Pros

No education needed, Good job if your a slacker

    Cons

Always working shorthanded. Never get many hours. Pay check doesn't pay bills. Working hard doesn't get you rewarded

    Advice to Management

Hire more people! 22hrs a week doesn't pay the bills.

I have been working at Giant Eagle full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Work at home when necessary. Good benefits. Lots of nice coworkers. Able to advance. Good career. Good wages. Lots of work.

    Cons

Nothing that I can think of at this time. Maybe training could be more extensive and more vacation days, need to work as a team.

    Advice to Management

Take time to listen to everyone. More loyalty is gained if management would be more accessible instead of at meetings.

I worked at Giant Eagle full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

When I first started 10 years ago, the company was doing extremely well. Morale was tremendous and they were great to their employees. The benefits were solid and the people were, for the most part, wonderful. Pay was fair.

    Cons

What was once a great company is downright awful. They are constantly told that their prices are too high, but don't expect them to be lowered. When I started 10 years ago, I reported directly to one of the owners of the company. Everything started out fine, but eventually I was on the receiving end of verbal abuse and misguided direction. Once this person retired, things got better, but eventually, I saw that this company was not what it preached. They have core values, however, they do not abide by them. It's all HR smoke and mirrors as is the case with most companies. They are moving at such a rapid pace (at least those who work) that supervisors don't even know what their employees do. They do not recognize talent, they expect other employees to do it for them with their little Applause Tickets.

    Advice to Management

Know who your people are and what talents they possess. Your ignorance and arrogance has gotten you into this predicament and unless you can replace the CEO and head in a new direction, you will be sold (probable) or go under (unlikely).

    Pros

    Job has no responsibilities.

    Cons

Union and Non Union stores are run different. Non union Getgo employees get bonuses based on sales. Union employees don't receive any bonuses... WHY?? don't we all do the same work? Very unorganized company. I was told Holiday's are optional. The only option I was given was to work.

    Advice to Management

Get organized. Treat you employees better and you won't have a revolving door when it comes to employees

    Pros

Benefits are Ok. Some nice co-workers but they usually leave after a few months

    Cons

Giant Eagle will never do anything more for its employees then it needs to.They give you $15.00 for christmas thats it and oh yea its a Giant Eagle gift card.. Such a high turnover your always working shorthanded. Have to work every Holiday/weekends. Management usually spends the day hiding from the employees so they don't have to deal with the problems

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees right and they might stay
