    Pros

High Pay but management expects way too much of you and do not know what its like to really be in the store.

    Cons

They expect high volume in the pharmacy and do not allow adequate staffing. This could very easily lead to serious errors when dispensing medications.

    Advice to Management

Please treat your employees better in the pharmacy.

    Pros

    * Pay and benefits are ok.

    Cons

    * Fresh Group leads are driving this company to the ground. Sitting in the cafe for a 2 hour lunch and walking around clueless.
    * Can't get promoted unless you know someone or related to someone. Pure talent and hard work gets you no where.
    * At the end of a 9 or 12hr day you still are made to feel like you didn't do enough.
    * Lowering prices is great for the company. But lowering and under staffing to make the bottom line is not fair to the ones who are in the stores. We need more workers not more management!

    Advice to Management

Get rid of Group Leaders! They are useless. I use to really enjoy working for this company. It has totally went downhill over the past 2 years.

    Pros

The pay is good and the benefits are good .

    Cons

Management doesn't listen to what you have to say. It's thier way or the highway. Hours are cut, constantly struggling to get my job done. No one cares. All they want is more. You can retire from here and still never get full time.

    Advice to Management

Managers at GE, need more training on how to treat people. They never take care of any of the problems in thier deparment, they just let them go. Then everyone becomes defensive. Hours and days off are given to thier favorite employees. There is never no equality. wish I would have made another carrer choice.

    Pros

Easy to work around school schedule. Close to home. And corporate giant eagle employees get 10% off giant eagle brands.

    Cons

Lack of communication between management. No room for leveling up in company. Will not let advance in the company. And the management is not well organized.

    Advice to Management

Do not ignore your employees. Also do not hire friends. Do not let some employees have special Privileges just because you are friends with them.

    Pros

    It pays the bills

    Some days are fun

Close to my house. So I save money on gas.

    Cons

    Long hours

Too many rules that are not followed by company leaders.

Too greedy. All they want is sales with less labor.
Honestly if you really think all the rules that is developed in corporate are being followed. Get out from behind your desk and put an apron on. Don't tell people how it should be done, on a piece of paper, without doing it yourself in a real "day in the life" of a "real" store. If we did everything to company policy, nothing else would get done!

More things wrong than there is right. I will be so happy when my days are done there.
It's sad because it use to be a nice company to work for.

    Advice to Management

At the end of the fiscal year...make cuts at corporate. Maybe some of the useless Vice Presidents should get their paycheck cut!

    Pros

Paid every week and steady job. Also get to try new things on a daily basis. Also work with some good people except management.

    Cons

Everything Else. upper management sticks their work on us and write us up for dumb things. Policies suck and I hate it. HR doesn't do crap except for one person who at least tries. It seems that every 6 months we get something new on our work load to the point that we cant finish it all. Management cusses out people if you cannot finish your job.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees with respect and stop using profanity towards your team members and also stop being two-faced and thinking you are invincible

Managers only liked certain people and if you weren't one of them you got all of the crap work and did everything they were suposed to! Employees were treated like crap if you got hurt on the job!!! It really overall blew!!!

    Advice to Management

    nationally recognized company
    adequate benefits
    advancement possibilities
    secure company

    Cons

promotions not based on talent, yet who you are related to or who you are "close" to
many corp managers when failing are moved to other positions so they can fail somewhere else
company does not embrace cultural diversity
company does not welcome "outsiders, seems they don't want any new ideas
good people let go so others can make their annual bonuses

    Advice to Management

The company will never become " Top Place to Work" unitl executive management walks it instead of talks it. Having a highly paid faimly member run this initative speaks volumes as to core issues with company

I worked at Giant Eagle full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay each week, Discount on store brand items, After many years working with them those are the only pros I can think of for this review.

    Cons

No training, no true direction for new programs, New CEO changing the landscape of the company with a singular focus of making 20 Billion in sales by 2020, They try things that they hear other companies do with no real understanding how they can impliment them into a grocery environment often at the expense of those brought in to help make those changes that are promised opportunity for a new career, Strong union where managers are not allowed to manage team members and often politics play strong role in keeping team members that steal or sexually harrass or damage the reputation of the brand.

    Advice to Management

Give the support needed to new managers that you hire for new roles. Dont hire them, not train them, put them in stores with no support then let them go after years of doing a job they never knew they were not doing well all while getting high marks on every performance review.

I have been working at Giant Eagle part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The union represents it's workers well.

    Cons

Almost all retail employees are hired at part-time. Sure there will be times when you'll get above 32+ hours a week, and even weeks where you might be offered overtime - those times are rare. A majority of the time you will get three days a week; which comes out to less that 250 a week before taxes. Plan on working unusual hours and also basically every holiday. Chances are that you will also not even be able to obtain full-time within five years. Promotion to full-time is seniority based only upon bid letters.

    Advice to Management

Customer service can only be provided when there are people that are actually scheduled to help the customers.
