A learning experience to say the least.

    Pros

At Giant Eagle the people are generally very nice and I get along with most of them. There is something for everyone at this store, and it is union based. There is a lot of room for growth and it really isn't hard at all to become a team leader if you really put your mind to it. Several breaks are given depending on shift length. You are also given a 10% discount on OWN brands. Paid vacation is available for part time and full time workers, and health benefits as well.

    Cons

The worst part of working in my department are probably the customer complaints, but this is expected in a prepared foods department. Another downside is the management. It's not that the managers as people are bad, it's that they seem to have trouble communicating with each other. Pay is relatively low, but also expected in the food industry. It can sometimes be difficult to get a full time position. Hours consistently get cut on part-time workers. Too much can sometimes be demanded. The customer is always right, even if they are CLEARLY wrong.

Giant eagle is a pretty good Employer

    Pros

They give you good hours. The managers are also very nice. I know i have worked at a department stores and the managers just think they can treat you however they want. At giant eagle you are treated with respect and they treat you the way you would want to be treated.

    Cons

There are a couple one of them is the way they hire employees and then the employees just quit. They need to be cautious when hiring so that they can actually get reliable people.

    Part of a family

Nov 23, 2020 - Senior Data Analyst in Pittsburgh, PA

    Pros

Although Giant Eagle has many locations and thousands of employees, you are still appreciated as an individual and valued -- just like family. Giant Eagle actively promotes inclusion and diversity rather than simply paying lip service to these values. Because Giant Eagle is a privately held company, it has the ability to make strategic decisions beyond the next quarterly earnings report, but Giant Eagle is also small enough to move with an agility and swiftness that publicly traded behemoths cannot match.

    Cons

Data sharing and input across divisions within the company could be more streamlined.

I enjoyed my time working at Giant Eagle

    Pros

The work environment fostered by several good managers made my experience with Giant Eagle very enjoyable. Another big plus for me working in the deli was that you would get to know your customers better which would lead to better customer service overall. You also get a paid week of vacation after a year along with decent benefits.

    Cons

The pay was a little low compared to other stores with openings, and the management is bound by upper management which limits the number of hours available which leads to worker shortages.

    Pros

I think the people I work with are terrific and supportive considering I am new as a cashier and they are veteran cashiers of Giant Eagle. The store is very well kempt and I get enough hours - as many as I need each week. Giant Eagle gave me an opportunity to work again after 8 months unemployed and age 51. Work, however is too repetitive,

    Cons

I work at a store too far away from where I live to keep working there and I have to wait for 3 more months, until I've worked for them for 6 months, until I can transfer locations.

    Doesn’t care about employees

    Pros

The people I met and worked with along the way were the only pro about Giant Eagle

    Cons

Terrible work schedule (4am start time), worked every weekend, upper management didn’t care about employees, no development opportunities and training, felt like I was being used as a tool and I was never appreciated. Also was a salary worker who was always told to stay over my time and never compensated or even told thank you.

Job good for high school kids

Jun 19, 2010 - Cashier in Willowick, OH

    Pros

They are very flexable about your work schedule at sometimes

    Cons

The older workers are just complainers, I dont like the fact that I was knocked from full time to part time and my benefits were taken from me and my hours were not good after that and I had bills plus kids, but they didnt care because the mangers were getting the 40 hours. So I found another job making 42K with benefits and I told Giant Eagle good bye! I dont even think managers are making that much and they been there for 20 and 30 years. pathetic!!!!

Very friendly and inclusive work environment. Giant Eagle made sure to provide me with a great deal of experience during the two summers that I spent as an intern.

    Cons

Remote work could be a potential downside.
