I worked at Giant Food full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

employee 5% discount, low cost health insurance for hourly employees, once eligible

    Cons

The union is a waste of money they are useless and do nothing for the employees plus they are way over paid.
District management is a disgrace with how they treat the employees and management as well as the lack of payroll they give you. A lot of the stores look horrible not enough payroll to maintain them

    Advice to Management

stop treating the store employees like trash and give them what they need to be successful.

I worked at Giant Food part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedule they will work with you when you have schedule requests, need a day off or need to work a different shift most of the time

    Cons

Not enough help. They give you less resources and gave outdated or constantly breaking devices/ tools. They come out to fix devices that constantly break instead of using newer technology

    Advice to Management

Give workers the tools they need to do their jobs

I worked at Giant Food part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Can't think of any. It's a retail job, but that goes without saying. At Giant Food, they have somehow managed to lower the bar.

    Cons

Very short breaks, if any are given at all.
You can be forced to work past your schedule time.
Your preferred work hours are not respected.
No real way to increase your pay grade here besides cashiering for them for 20 years.
Management is NOT on your side. Period.

    Advice to Management

Give your people breaks, and hire front-end managers that will side with your workers instead of making them feel like crap.

I worked at Giant Food part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The job itself is actually pretty fun. There was room for creativity and I enjoyed being around my coworkers. They were more helpful to me than some of the upper management.

    Cons

From the beginning I felt that information was intentionally being left out. I was told I would be working at two stores, sometimes others. I was under the impression that I would be working at these stores on different days of the week. Well, turns out that the company is incredibly cheap and instead of having two bakers in two separate stores on the same day working 8 hours each, they schedule one baker for two stores in a day (working four hours in each store). It is so stressful and expensive and I do not get paid nearly enough for it. I asked management about being paid travel but apparently the two stores I work at are too close together. Other employees have told me I'm being lied to.
There is the chance that you might be needed in stores an hour away from you in emergencies.
The bakery is all about quantity over quality, and cakes are expected to made in such a quick pace that I feel I can't put in my best work.

    Advice to Management

Stop being so cheap/cutting corners and schedule bakers in each store. So much more work and product can be made. It affects quality of the products and attitudes of employees.
