I have been working at Giant Food full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Full time position, flexible when I need it. Benefits and retirement.
Like my current management team. Looking forward to retirement.

    Cons

Lack of uniforms and equipment and needed supplies. Old equipment needs to be removed from premises. Lack of communication.

    Advice to Management

Clean up older stores. Especially equipment and fixtures in these stores. They are physical and health hazards.Come up with affordable uniforms.

I worked at Giant Food part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The job itself is actually pretty fun. There was room for creativity and I enjoyed being around my coworkers. They were more helpful to me than some of the upper management.

    Cons

From the beginning I felt that information was intentionally being left out. I was told I would be working at two stores, sometimes others. I was under the impression that I would be working at these stores on different days of the week. Well, turns out that the company is incredibly cheap and instead of having two bakers in two separate stores on the same day working 8 hours each, they schedule one baker for two stores in a day (working four hours in each store). It is so stressful and expensive and I do not get paid nearly enough for it. I asked management about being paid travel but apparently the two stores I work at are too close together. Other employees have told me I'm being lied to.
There is the chance that you might be needed in stores an hour away from you in emergencies.
The bakery is all about quantity over quality, and cakes are expected to made in such a quick pace that I feel I can't put in my best work.

    Advice to Management

Stop being so cheap/cutting corners and schedule bakers in each store. So much more work and product can be made. It affects quality of the products and attitudes of employees.

The work environment is friendly and welcoming. I really liked most of my co-workers.

    Cons

Job not worth the may. I did stock and cashering over night and after union dues and taxes I barely made anything.

I worked at Giant Food part-time

    Pros

SOME nice customers come to the store.

    Cons

I was a cashier. They give new employees all the worst hours and they don't pay good at all. I didn't like it. Short break and you're standing for hours. I quit in 2 weeks.

    Advice to Management

Invest in cashier seats like aldi

I worked at Giant Food (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good first time job, especially for high school students to gain experience and have a little cash.

    Cons

The hours suck like you wouldn't believe on top of an equally disappointing pay rate. (not reliable enough for bills). Unless you already put 10 plus years in to get a decent pay rate. Scheduling is very unpredictable and won't know your schedule til 2 days before that week start, every week. People that has more seniority can take your hours. No incentives to want to move up in the company at all.

I have been working at Giant Food part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

This isn't my first job, but if you NEED extra cash and I mean NEED, then this job is for you. They typically hire on the spot. So this is pretty much a easy job to apply to and get. You get paid weekly which some people like and some don't, but I do. Overnight stock doesn't have to interact with customers because we work during the stores closing hours. These are the only positive things I can say...sorry. Also don't call out in your first 90 days(3 months) or they will fire you.

    Cons

Low pay for overnight staff. I was making the same amount of money at another job and I wasn't working overnight. Hours are sometimes unpredictable which I hate. I was pissed because I was called back in after my first day and they didn't even care if I had time to adjust for the work hours. Very short on staff, so if you want to quit please be kind enough to put in a two-three weeks notice. I think the reason the pay is low is due to the fact that Giant(or my store at least) isn't making any money. No training what so ever they just make you work, no orientation, you have to do computer tests after you're hired and have already worked a couple of days which is dumb. I don't see myself working here for more than a couple of months and I know I may sound ungrateful, but I do appreciate money. The union takes $10 out of your paycheck for 5 weeks, so that's $50 total. 25 cent raise every year.

    Advice to Management

Up the minimum pay just a little, it's so many hardworking people at this job.
