    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Giant Food Stores part-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Co-workers are and can become lasting friendships. The work schedule is convenient. Paid holidays , vacation ( based on the average number of hours worked the previous year ) and health insurance ( extremely reasonably priced ) after two years.

    Cons

Their disability insurance is only based on a 20 hour work week- if you are part time regardless of how many hours you work a week... But - it is still worth the minimial amount you pay for it. Working on a Sunday can be grueling !!!

    Advice to Management

Reconize the employees that more than pull their own wieght. Somehow acknowledge the work load that the deli puts out.

I worked at Giant Food Stores full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

very good pay, excellent benefits (if you are full time)

    Cons

if salaried you are shifted to other stores frequently if part time no medical insurance avail Extreme amount of favoritism If you are from the LGBT community stay in closet; though Giant claims not to discriminate, you will only succeed if you claim to be straight Supervisors enforce rules then break the rules, to suit themselves with no consequences Correct people for management positions constantly overlooked; too many incorrect people entered into management program Employee of the month program is conducted as "who's your favorite employee" Minimal support from management especially if you are against the "favorite" Straight associates can talk about their partners (husbands, wives, boyfriends and girlfriends); associates who are from the LGBT community are chastised for talking about their partners

    Advice to Management

If you are going to administer the rules, they should be conducted correctly to all associates. You can't pick and choose who should be punished. Treat the associates from the LGBT community with more fairness.

I have been working at Giant Food Stores for more than 3 years

    Pros

Excellent pay, especially for part-time, Health care when average of 30 hours a week is met.

    Cons

Demands a lot from part-timers, no steadiness of schedule

    Advice to Management

Focus on the sources of the problem. If an employee is not working, reprimand them. Do not reprimand those that are doing their jobs appropriately. Hold onto good employees

I worked at Giant Food Stores for more than 5 years

    Pros

Easy to get employed. Coworkers are nice and in the same boat as yourself. Somewhat flexible hours. Better as a part time job but you may only get 4-8 hours a week.

    Cons

Management is very rude. They don't staff for the shift. If you need off on a specific day, you aren't guaranteed to get it, especially on the weekends (even if you've worked every other weekend and holiday for months on end.) They hold full time associates, not management, accountable for everything (even if they weren't there on the day in question.) You have to work many nights a week and may have to open the next day after working late. The customers can be very mean on busy days because of the short staffing and management will always side with the customer and come down hard on employees. The job is not worth the stress (especially once they cut full time down to 32 hours a week.) I would recommend you look at another company for work.

I have been working at Giant Food Stores part-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - You can have a rewarding job and get noticed for doing hard work, if you bring a good attitude. - The management is a good team and they will thank you and respect you for doing a good job. - There are lots of job openings, and one of the departments is usually always hiring. - The starting rate is $9.00/hr. for part time employees. - Training is paid. - The store gets good corporate scores. - You meet basically everyone there, and all the mangers. You can make friends and there's lots of possibilities for coworker referrals in the future. - Not a lot of micromanaging. The job role is usually the same every day. - They offer insurance (if you're full-time) and a 401k plan.

    Cons

    - Some coworkers, especially the part-time workers, just don't care (and nobody knows why they're still there). They damage the morale of the workplace, and other associates end up having to do their work. - Time management can be difficult. - If you're under 18, you can't work in the departments. - Part-timers are limited to 29 hours per week. - 29 hours or less per week means you don't qualify for benefits, including health insurance.

I worked at Giant Food Stores

    Pros

Flexibility of scheduling. Whenever you needed a day off, it was never a problem. As a part-time employee, this allowed me to work throughout school and meet all of the classes I had.

    Cons

More opportunities to advance. More opportunities for pay increases. More incentives for employees.
