I worked at Giant Steps full-time

        Pros

It is very rewarding to be able to watch the kids grow and build relationships with them. Staff is amazing to work with. There are also fun community outings and field trips!

        Cons

These children are very high needs, which leaves room for physical harm towards staff or other students, such as biting, hitting, hair pulling, etc. The job is extremely difficult for little pay.

I worked at Giant Steps full-time

        Pros

Collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team to support student growth. Classroom autonomy. Many passionate employees. Amazing students. Room for growth.

        Cons

Not enough time to prepare, plan and create materials. No scope and sequence/curriculum. Many more responsibilities than most teachers. (i.e. supervising 6-7 program assistants)

        Advice to Management

Increase teacher salaries, reduce teacher responsibilities, or provide more time for teachers to complete work during the school day. Spend time in classrooms and in the hallways with students in staff...the only time many admins are on the floor are during tours.

I worked at Giant Steps full-time

          Pros

It's a very rewarding job, and I found all of my coworkers to be pleasant to work with.

          Cons

The job is hard, the pay isn't great, and the administration seemed disconnected/indifferent to the teaching staff. Turnover was quite high, which is usually indicative of problem areas within a company.

          Advice to Management

If you cannot do it with pay, do whatever else you can to make your employees happy.

I have been working at Giant Steps full-time for more than 2 years

          Pros

-Friendly/supportive staff -Great students -Collaboration with multiple disciplines -Passionate staff -You become family when you work at GS

          Cons

-Management are horrible, they make decisions without working on the floor with the kids -The pay is not so great

          Advice to Management

Management need to go onto the floor more and work with the kids before they make decisions. Right now, management is trying to make our therapeutic school a public school and that is not the case.

I worked at Giant Steps full-time for more than 2 years

          Pros

-great supportive team environment -kids are wonderful to get to know and watch grow -great learning opportunity to develop your skills related to behavioral health, mental health, and education -opportunity to view different types of therapy such as OT, music, speech and social work sessions -a few weeks off for breaks can be a plus -opportunity to work camps during breaks to make extra money

          Cons

-few weeks off for break can also be a negative bc it means less money -can at times be stressful so needs a person who can remain calm in stressful moments

I have been working at Giant Steps

          Pros

Always put the needs of their students above all. Great team aspect feel very supported Tons of great resources to use The kiddos are amazing

          Cons

Admin sometimes stinks and favors certain classrooms

          Advice to Management

Come into the classrooms and actually see the students before making decisions about them. And not just two classrooms, because all different rooms have different needs.
