I have been working at Giant Tiger full-time

    Pros

Some staff are fantastic and know what it is to put in a sold days work. Other staff fell that there job is safe and do the minimum they can because they know how difficult it is for an employer to fire them.

    Cons

The over all corporate structure needs to be looked at. Different rates of pay. Bonuses. how many hours are aloud for staff. And how many employees are to be hired or how many for each department are way to different from store to store. These things need to be addressed and need to be a lot more simular between all stores. Also owners/operators should have more control over the products they are selling in there stores. There is to much corporate interference forcing stores to sell what they tell them to.

    Advice to Management

This is not about management considering they are told what they can and can't do by owners which are told by corporate headquarters what the can and can't do. Head office needs to give control back to the store owners/operators.

I worked at Giant Tiger (More than a year)

    Pros

People are great to work with. Many special days. Pizza days, chistmas partys.lots of overtime during peak periods if you want it.

    Cons

Working on a contract. Never get a long weekend. Always working saturdays. Revolving door of employees. Now that the warehouse is moving all the good employees will leave.

    Advice to Management

With the new warehouse you better keep some of the long term employees . I think this company is like a ship heading for an ice berg.

I worked at Giant Tiger (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good employees with a positive and professional work atmosphere.
The wages were enough to get me through college and I would recommend this company for anyone willing to work through school.

    Cons

Working until 9:00 pm and then at 7:30 am or 8:00 am the next day is very exhausting. Customers can be rude and obnoxious.

    Advice to Management

I don't recommend hiring so many couples, friends, or siblings as that seems to create segregation among employees and may interfere with job performances by creating unnecessary drama.

I have been working at Giant Tiger full-time

    Pros

    Paid courses related to job

    Cons

No room for growth and personal development, benefits could be better and Salary is under industry average for the 40hour week range.

    Advice to Management

management should focus a bit more on open communication and engage the workforce in improvement initiatives.

Staff were very friendly to work with and made it a more positive experience, would recommend working here if you are an outgoing person.

    Cons

Cramped work space in the back, very narrow hall considering how much stock is kept in the back, hard to work around each other sometimes.

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Giant Tiger full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Great co-workers and management
    - Opportunity for extra hours

When I first started working, I actually liked my job. Stocking shelves is a pretty straightforward task. When I got moved to fridge stocking, my enthusiasm fell. My particular store had a really friendly team, and I could always ask someone for help.

    Cons

    - Little room for advancement
    - Low pay
    - Only basic structure

The reason I say low pay is because I've done easier work for minimum wage at two other jobs. I see little room for advancement. Supervisors make only $0.20 more. The structuring is a personal issue, as enough is given for you to do your job. I just wish there was more organization in the fridge and freezer, because it makes my job frustrating.

    Advice to Management

Have more specific guidelines, and consider the amount of work being done versus the pay. Other than that, nothing special.

I have been working at Giant Tiger full-time

    Pros

the managers are very flexible in terms of working schedules, most people are usually very friendly and helpful, it is a good place to start your career

    Cons

the pay is substantially low, don't have a good benefit package, HR is hard to talk to, the working hours is 9 hours when most of the company has only 8 hours working schedule

    Advice to Management

not a lot advice to give to management, they are doing great
