I have been working at Gibbs & Cox full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

New employees have called this place "like coming home". Great work atmosphere. A lot of different projects...you don't get stuck being pigeon holed into one job for the rest of your life.

    Cons

Some weekend work to meet deadlines, but I'd rather be challenged than treated like a robot.

    Advice to Management

Create more opportunities in diverse markets.

I have been working at Gibbs & Cox full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Prestigious company with a great amount of trust from the Navy means continued a good success rate in contract wins. Small departments mean a lot of exposure to different tasks, so you build a lot of skills quickly. A lot of very knowledgeable senior engineers available for mentorship, whether structured or not. Casual atmosphere, if a bit quiet.

    Cons

Stingy with overhead, leading to some uncomfortable traveling experiences and out of date software challenges. Too strict in promotional rubric for early career engineers.

    Advice to Management

Better communication necessary between designers and engineers!

I worked at Gibbs & Cox full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Laid back work environment.

    Cons

They will send you to other sites to support various tasks and not pay you for your efforts. They are big penny pinchers and will try to save money in the most distasteful way. I've seen my department stay at around 30 people where half of them have been there for years while the other half stay less than a year. Also, pay is NOT competitive. I've heard some of the recent graduates complain that they have to live with roommates as they couldn't afford to live by themselves in the Arlington Area.

    Advice to Management

I don't know if they'd stick around long enough to make a difference. CEO seems racist!!

I have been working at Gibbs & Cox full-time

    Pros

For a company that was founded in the 1920's this company seems to be pushing hard to stay current with modern times. Lots of investments in technology and people with a sincere desire to pursue improvements in business culture and processes to keep the company growing.

    Cons

Still needs to work on getting all areas to embrace change. There are a few small pockets of resistance to change.

    Advice to Management

Stay the current course. You are doing a great job in looking for opportunities to improve, thanks for the willingness to invest.
