    Pros

This is one company that 100% changes the lives for thousands waiting for a life saving transplant.

This is a fantastic resume builder

    Cons

The staff making it all possible is under extreme pressure to perform around the clock without compensation to match. compensation is sub-par, burn out rate is high and a career ladder is non-existent. The management is beyond stale, and the culture has not changed since the last millennium.

    Advice to Management

The Community Relations department often is tasked at working events every night of the week, including weekends. Getting all of the work done within the office hours is impossible, and often times requires evening work or coming into the office on the weekends just to catch up after being at required events.

The turnover rate continues to prevent the organization to really grow as innovators in the world of organ donation. Invest in a team that can grow, and watch what happens.

    Pros

The biggest positive is being able to help people who are facing challenges and some of the worst times in their lives.

    Cons

Leadership in my department was incompetent and disappointing. I do not feel resources are used well, and talented employees are not invested in. Issues with management and staff are not addressed.

    Pros

Great service to the public....I really felt I was helping out and doing good

    Cons

Culture and values don't translate to the average worker. You basically give up having a social or family life.

    Advice to Management

Senior management is a mixed bag between tyranical and benevolent. Never know what to expect

I have been working at Gift Of Life Donor Program full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

This organization saves peoples lives every single day, lots of friendly colleagues, impressive benefits package. A lot of departments have a laid back approach and allow their employees to flourish and own their work. The clinical department really has their act together and what they do is extraordinarily impressive.

    Cons

Incompetent senior management - it seems that people are Directors not because of their knowledge and experience but because they've been there for a long time, extremely ineffective human resources department. If you are looking for an hr position I would run. Lack of career opportunities, once you are in that's it, that's your role until you leave.

    Advice to Management

Clean up senior management. Pay attention to feedback from employees and implement programs that would up employee satisfaction (i.e., relaxed summer dress code)

    Pros

Beautiful facility to work in. Chance to work for and organization that is doing allot of good.

    Cons

Lots of early mornings and late nights. Hours required to be effective far exceed what is recommended. Training was not job specific.

    Advice to Management

When there is excessive turn around in one department the problem is probably the way in which it is being run.

    Pros

Amazing opportunity to contribute. Great autonomy when your experienced. Knowledge you gain is priceless. Tight community that socializes well.

    Cons

Inconsistent with protocols. Some management are cool, some are difficult to work with. Obsessed with numbers rather than process. Senior management get paid astronomical ammounts.

    Advice to Management

Look at other OPO's and stop thinking your the best.

    Pros

The benefits are good--403b matching is great, however, requires five years to be vested. Lots of company holidays including Christmas, Christmas Eve, Thanksgiving and the day after.

    Cons

The directors and senior management are in place because they have been there since the beginning not because they are qualified or able. It is an organization that has grown quickly in size but has not adapted to a professional organization. Very little direction or support. The turn over rate is atrocious and average of one year is generous. Many very early mornings and late nights are required.

    Advice to Management

Outsource human resources to a third party. Employees need to be able to speak with HR confidentially not have the conversation regurgitated to management and then have employees be penalized for it. Value your employees. If you treat employees like they are easily replaceable then then you will be continually replacing them.
