I worked at Gigwalk full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Similar to how Uber is disrupting the transportation industry and Airbnb the hotel industry, Gigwalk is transforming how people find and execute work thru mobile technology. Gigwalk is at the forefront of this movement. McKinsey just did a study that showed over 30% of the labor force is now working in the Gig economy.

Gigwalk has built an organic workforce of over 1 million Gigwalkers and is growing exponentially. Additionally, the platform has continued to evolve and become more advanced, meeting the needs of clients.

Gigwalk gave me an amazing opportunity to branch outside of a traditional sales role and handle many cross departmental responsibilities. It was a pleasure working alongside the CEO, CTO, and VP of Engineering. I left Gigwalk with a wealth of new tools and learnings.

    Cons

When you read the cons, one needs to take into consideration that this is a startup, its an organization that consumes VC cash and is trying to become a sustainable business. If you understand this upfront then there should be no surprises when there are pivots, roadblocks, etc. The company is extremely agile and releases new updates every 2 weeks. Because of that flexibility different hypothesis and strategies will be tested. Based on your needs, a startup can be a pro or con.

I worked at Gigwalk full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Company is really thinking about making its core offerings meet a more targeted market
    - Crowdsourcing business is strong, meets a market need, and customers seem to be happy with it.
    - Software business has grown and the product has grown alongside it, customers are buying in.
    - Engineering team has really solidified
    - core group of good people who are keeping the company focused and driving forward

    Cons

    - Turnover can be a pain-- similar to most startups
    - Need to build more brand awareness in staffing and events vertical

    Advice to Management

Focus on hiring people who want to get their hands dirty. There's a subset of people who thrive on roller coaster rides. Identify that type of person and bring in more of them.

I have been working at Gigwalk full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people at the company are wonderful, although most seem to be disgruntled about their day to day work situation. Most teams intermingle well, having lunch from time to time, and from the younger folks play beerpong, shoot pool, and drink beers.

The Engineering and Product teams report to the VP of Engineering, who seems to be doing a great job managing his team and building out some incredible stuff. The stability of the product has increased dramatically since he’s joined, and overall the processes owned by the Product Managers and Engineers seem to be going well. They hit roadblocks here or there, but always come out on top.

Sales has recently hit a dark time and is experiencing high turnover, but the company will be hiring a new VP of Sales in the near future, which should hopefully turn things around. The team is clearly unhappy, but hoping for better things to come. Signs aren’t pointing upward, but let’s just say after rarely collecting any commission, it can’t get worse.

    Cons

The biggest flaw with the company is the executive leadership. Unfortunately, this group looks at the people that work here as their property, not human beings. You won't see any high fives, and you won't hear "wow team/person xyz did a great job this quarter! Let's give them a round of applause!" Not only that, but you won't hear anyone from the leadership team ask how your weekend was or if there are any good dinner spots in the city, etc.

The CEO is new to SaaS, and that combined with his bias towards client executive leadership (vs the people using the product) creates a slightly toxic environment for the people on the ground doing the work. His leadership has created a highly customized solution for these few large clients, and sales is stuck fitting a square peg into a round hole when pitching to new prospects. He’s an operations guy with a manufacturing background, and has made it clear he does not have a proactive Gigwalk company vision/goal, but rather a reactive “build this for them because they’re paying us now” mentality.

The company will continue to be mediocre until it finds a way to sell to the masses vs being an R&D dept for a small number of enterprise clients.

    Advice to Management

If you wonder why you've offered to take people out to happy hour and they don't join, it's because you rarely have a non work related conversation with us. You only speak to us when you need something work related. It's ok to let your guard down and be your regular self around the office once and a while. In fact, we'd love to get to actually know you!

I worked at Gigwalk full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It's a great place to come and learn things quickly if you are hungry. You really can contribute across different business functions. If you believe in the SaaS industry this company definitely has the potential to make a dent in the retail industry and you can play a role in that. Also, they pay fairly well although their stock probably won't be worth a lot ultimately.

    Cons

If you are looking for a startup experience - there are tons of better places out there. Not that Gigwalk is completely horrible but there are just lots of better places out there - so do your homework. If you have just one job offer and you pick Gigwalk, you are in for a lot of bad surprises.

Gigwalk still suffers from the day-to-day ego issues of a co-founder and the (latest, third) CEO is still figuring things out. Then sometimes have fights in front of the whole team so it can be pretty toxic in the office - and indicates the overall maturity of the leadership. At least three director level folks have quit in the last 12 months and those positions have not been filled so they definitely have a problem attracting and retaining middle management.

The company has finally settled on a business plan after a lot of pivots but they don't have the patience to invest and execute over the long-term. They want results overnight and they are completely comfortable burning the team out over that. Just not ok and the results speak for themselves - every single long-standing employee has quit and moved on to better places.

Why would you want to work here if you are confident and sure of your skills?

    Advice to Management

Respect, trust and invest in your team. Your job is to listen to them, enable them to go make good decisions and execute on them. Please don't treat everyone like an amateur.

I worked at Gigwalk full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Enjoyed working with engineers, sales and client services. Food and snacks. Lunch on Fridays. Can't really think of anything else though.

    Cons

You will feel your soul being sucked dry on a daily basis. Very bad leadership and unrealistic ideas on resourcing vs actual work to do. Non management co-workers were a pleasure to work with. The stress though brought on by senior management's inability to secure deals or maintain scale in head count is a tangible issue.

    Advice to Management

You can't build an amazing product without proper head counts and employee moral.

    Pros

    - Superb direction from upper management
    - Company culture is the best I've experienced thus far in my career
    - Top-tier salary and compensation packages
    - Ability for quick career advancement; management believes in promoting within as much as possible
    - Ground-breaking technology that will fundamentally change how workforces are managed and data is collected
    - Headquarters walking distance from BART, CalTran, MUNI, and Ferry

    Cons

    - This is only a con if you are allergic or dislike dogs, but office is pet friendly and there is usually one or two dogs in the office

    Advice to Management

Continue to build out sales and engineering teams, this company has major upside. Would like to see company double in size within a year

    Pros

have been challenged and encouraged everyday i come into the office. Very fast pace "go get it" attitude.

    Cons

Not a place to work if you need your hand held, need to be motivated and ready to dive into any situation that comes your way.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

The company gives you the opportunity to really get involved with all aspects of the business. Really strong team environment with a close group of people supporting an emerging product.

    Cons

Has been a fair bit of turnover, but that trend seems to have settled.

    Advice to Management

Focus on building a strong company culture should align with focusing on building a strong product. The two are hand-in-hand.

I worked at Gigwalk full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Used to be decent company..

    Cons

    No consistent vision
Poor leadership - The entire management team has no idea how to run a small company, treats employees as nothing more than a body in the office.
    Toxic Environment
Very little "team" feeling for such a small company

    Advice to Management

Get new Management.. Previous CEO left, current CEO is incapable of being an effective leader with the way he looks down upon everyone in the office. Middle management has no power to fix anything.

    Pros

Working at Gigwalk is a great environment for someone who likes taking on multiple roles, adding real value to a growing company, and growing as an individual exponentially.

    Cons

At times the it feels that the leadership team can be disconnected from the company when they are making pivots to keep the company innovative.

    Advice to Management

Create better structures for streamlining communication and engaging the employees in the vision of the company.
