I have been working at Gilbane Building Company full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The benefits are better than the competition, the company really cares, it is not just a slogan. The strategy is clear and shown to every employee (unusual). Anybody who says there is no strategy have decided to not read it.

    Cons

More people are needed, I know they are trying to hire, but always seems there is a need for more people, especially in the busy locations.

    Advice to Management

Keep true to the culture, you have done well with this, but as the growth continues, this will be important.

    Pros

Upper Management delivers informative communication periodically; Good health benefits but high out-of-pocket cost; Paid-Time-Off; Retirement Plan; Employee benefits like tuition reimbursement, etc.

    Cons

Poor hiring practices (buddy-system, Carpenters hired as PMs, etc.); Lot of micro-management; Management style of a 1960s company; poor employee recognition.

    Advice to Management

Hire qualified people, pay for overtime, get more competitive, lead the market instead of following.
