I have been working at Gilbane Building Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great company with great benefits. Lots of people to learn from and great, interesting projects.

    Cons

No cons working here thus far

    Advice to Management

Partner with engineering/consulting firms to offer more technical classes through GU (i.e. MEP/structural design, etc.). Increase tuition reimbursement benefits for the highest performers.

    Pros

Decent benefits; great people; customer-friendly company

    Cons

Family-owned business - prone to extreme favoritism. Certain people move up quickly and get assigned to the best jobs - if you are not the "in" crowd, your career may stall here. Like to hire young people with no experience for less money - company does not seem to appreciate or pay for experience. Many customers are not happy with the young, inexperienced staff.

I worked at Gilbane Building Company full-time

    Pros

good benefits nice people to work with. They do like long term employment.

    Cons

the Safety Culture is all show and not back up. I walked with the CEO on a job. Safety was abysmal, but the job was ahead of schedule and under budget. Safety records were faked but hey we are making money$$$$. The job went through 5 safety managers, and never changed the Super or the PX. If it looks bad, replace the Safety Manager. The safety Department has the highest turnover rate and the lowest pay.

    Advice to Management

Learn what Skanska, Lend Lease and Clark have. Integrity. You win Safety Awards because you are good at filling out paper, not people.

    Pros

Great culture. Amazing people. Very team-oriented. Focused on the safety and well-being of its employees and the communities it serves. Impeccable brand.

    Cons

The company faces the same challenges as others in the US construction industry - it is a lower-margin/lower growth industry than some others and may face some headwinds in upcoming years. Like other firms in the industry, the leadership is not very diverse.

    Advice to Management

Continue its expansion into international areas which could offer margin expansion and growth opportunities.
