I have been working at Gilead Sciences full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good salary, bonuses, stocks options. There is nothing else to mention here. Well, maybe the location is not that bad but still the area is quite expensive

    Cons

No structure, not open to suggestions, no career path, old mafia rules all important decisions. Very conservative in terms of process improvement changes. Old school

    Advice to Management

If you hire new people with broad experiences, then use them. Be able to accept new suggestions and challenges. Be open to receive feedback of the status quo.

I worked at Gilead Sciences full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits! Chair massages will really help with the stress at this place.

    Cons

If you get a job offer, don't expect a higher title - Gilead typically offers the same title you are at or the next LOWER title. This may change as the Gilead stock and overall status declines.
Don't expect any promotions while working at Gilead. If you apply for another position that would be a promotion and they accept you - expect to take the job for the same pay and title level you are currently at! Gilead will allow you the privilege of being paid less than market for the work that you perform.
Do expect a boys club culture, especially in PDM QA.

I have been working at Gilead Sciences full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Gilead has great benefits. No free lunches or daycare, but Gilead has a shuttle, excellent 401k match (100% upto 10k), good health insurance.

Good work life balance - a lot of negative reviews of people not having work-life balance, however, the parking lots are empty by before 8 am and after 5:30 pm

There definitely are a lot of opportunities to grow or transition to different functions, but you need to have the right connections to be on the inside track.

    Cons

May not apply to all departments but widely prevalent -

Empire Building, lots of it - departments are very territorial and are trying to grab power. All the finger pointing, back stabbing and complaining makes it difficult to get things done.

As previously mentioned, growth opportunities a limited to those who have learned to navigate the waters, its not really a 'pay for performance' system.

Very reactive and lots of busy work, probably the reason for low work life balance.
People aren't as smart (or hard working) as they claim - R&D maybe top notch, but most other functions are about average.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work

I have been working at Gilead Sciences full-time

    Pros

The level of commitment of the company to solving hard problems that affect millions of people is incredible.

    Cons

With the growth during the last couple of years the vetting of candidates might have got a little lax and below average people had to be hired. Fortunately many of them have left as they could not keep up.

I worked at Gilead Sciences full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Job stability, and a good environment for the "lone wolf"

    Cons

I interacted with so many departments at Gilead, and very few people were happy. Several departments silo contributors, making them feel alone and overwhelmed. Upper management is not afraid to intimidate and yell at people during meetings, which creates tension and causes everyone to complain all the time.
