I have been working at Girl Scouts USA full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

    - very flexible, you made your own schedule. They reimburse you for driving. Facilities are decent for the most part. Lots of time off and paid vacations.

    Cons

    - low pay - benefits are expensive

    Advice to Management

Don't let office politics make big decisions for the organization. Consider people that have been there for upper management positions.

I have been working at Girl Scouts USA full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Free reign of your position and opportunity for creativity Work hours are semi-flexible Great mission

    Cons

Limited direction but high expectations Very limited work/life balance Many nights, weekends, and unpaid overtime Large disconnect between upper management and lower management Much resistance from leaders due to high turn over and constant state of change. Constant work environment of urgency Little to no opportunity for professional growth and advancement

    Advice to Management

Leadership is not a position but a state of mind. When you have councils fairly small number of employees, large decisions should be discussed and decided on as a whole. This would empower those who have to carry out your decisions to have pride in completing them.

I have been working at Girl Scouts USA part-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

The company culture is very family oriented. Each council operates differently. I am located in west central Florida. I live 90 miles away from the office and I am able to work from home, particularly since I do outreach. I work directly with girls in the school, so it’s different than running a traditional troop after school and on weekends.

    Cons

The pay is average, but the work is rewarding and meaningful.

I worked at Girl Scouts USA

    Pros

PTO Work relationships Working with girls Mileage Reimbursment Room for creativity

    Cons

Salary Ability to move up in the company Upper management doesn't care about opinions of lower-level employees Talk about having an open-door policy but do not demonstrate their willingness to listen Constantly being told by upper management to "not tell other employees" about negative goings-on in the company

    Advice to Management

Stop talking and just listen for once. Your staff (who are the people who actually interact with girls/leaders) are trying to tell you what needs to be done but all you see are numbers and dollar signs.

I have been working at Girl Scouts USA part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great, friendly co-workers and managers who are willing to help you with anything. It's a great place to be creative and see how your work directly impacts the girls. It is very rewarding to see an event you developed run successfully.

    Cons

There's lack of communication between departments, which can be very frustrating. Also, the expectation to leave certain properties in perfect condition, yet host events that involve painting and baking.
