    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Girl Scouts USA full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Flexibility Parking Location Work/Life Balance Green working environment Paid Time off

    Cons

Pay is not competitive for all positions absolutely no opportunity for growth development or advancement high turnover mission and Girl Scout law does not reflect internal culture almost non existent diversity at the executive or senior level management despite the diverse demographic within the organization (this is a serious problem) Low morale internally

    Advice to Management

Invest in ALL employees development not just the favorites. Train upper level management and THEN retrain upper level management on being real mentors to their staff. Realize that seniority isn't necessarily a qualification for management. Just because someone is great at self management, doesn't mean they're capable of managing others.

    Approves of CEO

I have been working at Girl Scouts USA full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Free reign of your position and opportunity for creativity Work hours are semi-flexible Great mission

    Cons

Limited direction but high expectations Very limited work/life balance Many nights, weekends, and unpaid overtime Large disconnect between upper management and lower management Much resistance from leaders due to high turn over and constant state of change. Constant work environment of urgency Little to no opportunity for professional growth and advancement

    Advice to Management

Leadership is not a position but a state of mind. When you have councils fairly small number of employees, large decisions should be discussed and decided on as a whole. This would empower those who have to carry out your decisions to have pride in completing them.

I worked at Girl Scouts USA full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Get to make a difference in the lives of girls, a lot of variety

    Cons

Driven by money and not by mission, toxic work environment, lack of work-life balance

    Advice to Management

Be more mission focused. Serving more girls is great because it means more girls are having their lives changed. But hounding employees to meet arbitrary goals only to bring in more money is terrible.

I worked at Girl Scouts USA full-time

    Pros

Nationally recognized organization with a girl focused mission.

    Cons

Extremely top down management. Do not value employees. Work Life Balance is virtually non existent with expectation of working 2 or 3 nights per week, 12 hour days, 60 or more hours per week in a vain attempt to meet unrealistic expectations.

    Advice to Management

Set reasonable expectations, value the employees you have and listen to their feedback.

    Pros

Commaraderie within certain groups Mission for Volunteers and Girls

    Cons

    1. Top-Level Heavy Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts laid off 7-mid level management, but Senior Level and Chiefs were unaffected by reduced annual budget and downsizing of the organization. 2. Advancement through sycophantism After downsize, promotions were given to replace the 7 positions 3. Poor benefits In an "empowering" women's organization, maternity leave is not offered.
