I have been working at Givaudan (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Stable organization
Some managers are great at recognizing and growing talent. If you are lucky to work with one of them your experience will be very positive.

    Cons

Salaries are not as generous or competitive as some other fragrance companies.
There is such a corporate approach that it keeps everyone in boxes and levels. There is little or no recognition for loyal employees or an understanding of the business by new managers

    Advice to Management

Incorporate a more value based, easier to understand way of compensating and rewarding employees.

I have been working at Givaudan full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, very difficult to get fired.

    Cons

Toxic culture, yearly reviews that are not based on merit. Impossible to get ahead in this organization. Every position is posted externally and internal employees are equal to anyone who applies off the street.

    Advice to Management

Spend less money training new employees on the nuances of the flavor industry and start focusing on your greatest assests. Your current talented educated employees!

I worked at Givaudan as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Interesting experience and job contents and easy working environment

    Cons

The company highly relies on R&D. I felt like other functional positions don't have promising career development.

I worked at Givaudan as a contractor

    Pros

-People are friendly, good atmosphere + positive attitudes.
-Work is easy/minimal, tons of down time and little to no stress
-Nearly every issue that you are not sure about can be escalated to specific groups or you can ask IT coordinators which are extremely helpful in advising on possible solutions in the case you're not sure how to do something.
-Some perks of getting free fine fragrance samples and candles every once in a while
-No direct supervision in NYC office/no micro-management so long as internal users don't complain and tickets are solved on time.
-No overtime = consistent schedule for a better work/life balance, however this can be a con if you want extra cash.
-Good job for people currently in college part time
-Easy to get comfortable, which is also a con

    Cons

-Absolutely zero opportunity for growth/promotions in NY since all other IT departments are in NJ.
-Desktop support roles are stuck in never ending contracts via recruiter
-No way to take on projects or responsibilities or collaborate with other IT teams on more significant work, or to learn new technologies to broaden your skillset
-Can get very boring when you only get 2-5 tickets a day, and often times they take only a few minutes to complete such as connecting a laptop to a projector for a meeting or unlocking a windows account in AD. Your day mostly consists of waiting for something to go wrong or for a user to request something.
-No opportunities for official/extensive training for tools that techs are meant to use day to day even though I had asked multiple times.
-Horrible pay as a contractor, almost insulting.
-Contractors in this role do not EVER get converted to full time. That is "policy".
-Only 5 paid personal days a year you could possibly accumulate by the end of your 2nd year there. So for the first year you get no paid vacation time, and throughout the second year you accumulate PTO time throughout that year which eventually adds up to 5 days.

If you are planning for the long term and want to move up through the ranks and climb the career ladder, I suggest staying away. If you're ok with doing the same job for 10+ years for mediocre pay then this is the job for you.

    Advice to Management

It is extremely demotivating when you know you will never be a real employee of the company regardless of your performance or how much time has been spent there as a contractor. We have the desire and motivation to go above and beyond our normal responsibilities to work on bigger projects that have significant value to the company, but aren't given the opportunity to do so since those tasks are delegated to other IT departments physically away from us making it is impossible to even look over someone's shoulder and learn new technical skills. There is so much down time that lack of time due to us having to do our own job is not an excuse.

Because of this, I view this position as a dead-end role offering no incentive to stay long term. Perhaps you don't know the actual salaries of your contractors, which would also help put into perspective my negative approach. Try surviving in NYC on $30k/year after taxes (and that's after a small raise I got 6 months in) when you have a college degree and tell me you enjoy showing up to work every morning knowing you have no chance of being converted or learning any more new skills that would be worthy of putting on my resume.

    Cons

    - Not very flexible and very behind the times when it comes to flexibility and being open minded

Be More flexible if you want to maintain the millennials. People do not want to work for a company that doesn't provide options - esp to work from home
