I have been working at Glatfelter full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

You can make a great living if you are willing to put up with the work schedule

    Cons

You have no scheduled days off. You work all weekends and holidays. Out of 365 days in the year you will be expected to work at least 320 to 340 of them, depending on the amount of vacation you have earned with your years of service. Management has zero concern for employees at Spring Grove mill. Their main focus is on cost reduction through workfoce downsizing. At one point in time the previous management hired enough people to make it possible to maintain a work/family balance. Now people are required to work so many hours, family is forced to be put on the back burner if you want to keep your job. They are consistently touting safety and "Integrity" while completely ignoring the unsafe amount of hours they force employees to work. 7 days a week, swing shift. No days off between changing shifts. Get off one shift, return 8 hours later for a different shift. On top of that the plant is so undermanned, people are regularly forced to work up to 80 hours a week without any time off. The building is that old and in such a stat of disrepair that the roof leaks at different locations throughout the entire plant. There is lead paint peeling off the walls at certain places. You'll be required to wear a hardhat in certain areas because chunks of concrete are falling from various locations. At one point in time this was one of the best places to work in the tri-county area. Now I'm unsure of the future of this plant, or if it will be hear long enough for me to retire. Unfortunately I've got a good many years of service in and I'm at an age where it's hard to start over and find employment elsewhere. My advice to anyone seeking employment here would be to look elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Put some money into the building as well as the outdated equipment. More than that ,start treating your employees with the respect they have earned.

    Pros

good benefits and good people to work with

    Cons

Corporate executives run the mills with little or no paper mill experience. They tend to look only at financial outcomes and do not take into account the unintended consequences of their actions.

    Advice to Management

Either gain a better understanding of how the individual mills operate or hire someone who can and then listen to that person.

I have been working at Glatfelter full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The money and a few of the people.

    Cons

Stuck in the old ways of 7 day swing shifts. The management and all but 2 supervisors are brain dead.
You have to stick someone with an extra shift if you want a day off due to lack of employees on the working floor.
Somehow acceptable to hire 5 HR personell but the employees inside are short staffed.
The CEO banks as the employees are his pawns.
    One Big Game.

    Advice to Management

    LISTEN TO THE WORKERS!
We want to see this place thrive and will make the best choices for our jobs. We cannot do it under current management.

I worked at Glatfelter full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people at Glatfelter are some of the hardest-working in the industry. They are always willing to go the extra mile to ensure the job is done right and that our customers are satisfied. The company culture is one of integrity, teamwork, and flexibility.

    Cons

Wages have been fairly stagnant over the past few years, both in the hourly and salary side, while the employee shared cost of benefits has increased. This is mostly due to a declining market overall in the paper industry and increased pressures in the marketplace. Management has been putting increased pressure on the union to cut wages and benefits while still giving senior management large bonuses and stock options.

    Advice to Management

Promote from within. Hiring management from outside the company does more harm than good due to the fact that most of those hired from outside the company do not take the time to learn the company culture. By doing so they would be more effective in finding optimal ways to implement changes that are good for the company and the employees.
