I worked at GlaxoSmithKline full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Helping patients with new medicines and progressing science is fulfilling work. There are flexible work hours, and many opportunities for personal development.

    Cons

Forced distribution rating system often leaves hard working individuals feel they have not been valued. There are not enough women in high level scientific roles.

    Advice to Management

Employees would feel more valued with no forced distribution

I have been working at GlaxoSmithKline

    Pros

Good work life balance, pay is decent

    Cons

Inconsistent standards for promotion. Some groups can seem a little top heavy with more higher level positions then needed.

I have been working at GlaxoSmithKline full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great people, high quality science, laid back culture, good benefits and work life balance

    Cons

Lack of management transparency, politics, run down facility, lack of diversity

    Advice to Management

If we are serious about inclusion and diversity, we should re-think moving the R&D centers farther away from the city of Philadelphia

    I worked at GlaxoSmithKline full-time

    Pros

Good work-life balance and flexibility with the option to work remotely on occasion. Good benefits and savings options. Encourages learning and growth

    Cons

Too much instability. Every two years or so there was a reorganization, so there was a lack of job security. And the work space kept changing from cubicles to open floor plans. The latest "smart space" with no assigned seating was not pleasant, and could be very loud.

    Advice to Management

Stop laying off the people who know what they are doing. They are the ones who keep the business moving.

I have been working at GlaxoSmithKline for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good, open minded culture. Good benefits. Good work/life balance - can work from home occasionally. Good people to work with. Many opportunities to learn new science.

    Cons

Slow career progression. Promotions are not based on performance, but on tenure. Very small raises despite high performance ratings. Low pay overall. As with anywhere, recognition depends on the project you work on. Company not the most successful currently.

    Advice to Management

Connect with lower level employees. Visit the work areas and be more visible. Don't be stingy with promotions and raises - people are leaving because of it. Keep being an open minded company.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at GlaxoSmithKline full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Friendly work environment with a large number of company activities to support an environment where people feel appreciated.

    Cons

lay offs tend to happen around the holidays but you usually know that is coming because the company is very transparent

I have been working at GlaxoSmithKline full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good pay and great benefits. Typically competent and well-trained staff. Rewarding to work for a company that gets results and gets products on the market.

    Cons

Too many reorganizations. Unsettled working environment. Constantly look over your shoulder wondering if the next reorg will cut your job. Hard to advance - the requirements for promotion keep changing.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees more. You are sending a clear message to staff that we are not valued and are nothing more than a liability rather than an asset. The staff 'on the ground' are the ones with the skills and knowledge to discover and develop the drugs, yet you discard us left and right.

I have been working at GlaxoSmithKline full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Excellent benefits, good vacation, pension, bonus

    Cons

Managers do not go through any kind of training, performance reviews are unfair due to GSK requiring managers to pick a certain number of employees to fill the required "fail" slots.

    Advice to Management

Do not play favorites. Be fair.

    I worked at GlaxoSmithKline

    Pros

None besides salary and getting exposed to a highly educated workforce that you know will be laid off and disbanded. This could help future entrepreneurial efforts.

    Cons

Company managed by a junior level executive. No sense of direction for the business, and instead of intelligently growing they are pretty much lining up for a sell off.

    Advice to Management

Fire Andrew Witty and get someone in who has real experience, and not just ties to Asia.

I worked at GlaxoSmithKline full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Wonderful colleagues, lots of job flexibility

    Cons

Constant infrastructure change. I was laid off but managed to get a position elsewhere in the company. I then left the company to pursue academic goals but haven't succeeded in getting my foot back in the door. They seem to be going through more lay-offs
