    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at GlaxoSmithKline full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good work/life balance. Nice modern lab and work space.

    Cons

Analytical technology is behind the times. Internally developed systems and software are not intuitive and waste a lot of time. Senior scientists are treated like pairs of hands.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at GlaxoSmithKline full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Big Pharma has deep pockets and GSK is no exception. Scientists have the opportunity to work with the latest cutting edge technology, interact with therapy area KOLs, and generally be surrounded by great colleagues. The company mission is noble, and there is the opportunity to make a real difference if you are part of a program that leads to an approved medicine.

    Cons

Employees can sometimes get lost in a huge company, and GSK could do a better job at rebooting the careers of the lost rather than letting them wander aimlessly through the halls like well compensated zombies. Priorities can change fast at GSK, and you never knew when you may find yourself on the losing side of a program, or site closure. Frequent re-orgs and layoffs maintained a certain level of anxiety for most.... Often people would not speak up for fear of retribution.

    Advice to Management

GSK should have divested Consumer Healthcare and Vaccines a decade ago to focus on Core Pharma.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

I worked at GlaxoSmithKline full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good friendly R&D colleagues at the RTP site, most of which were let go in 2015. Some "DPUs" were bringing some interesting programs to the pipeline.

    Cons

Huge R&D organization with lots of layers, massive bureaucracy, all process driven with zero thinking or creativity, brutal inter-site competition. GSK now knows that it cannot compete as an R&D organization, it's unable to discover and develop new drugs, new CEO coming in 2017 to try to stop downward spiral, good luck.
