I worked at GlaxoSmithKline as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Small team of motivated co-workers. Great brands to work on in the marketing area. International culture of the company.

I have been working at GlaxoSmithKline as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Friendly welcoming atmosphere. Easy to pick up new skills and network

    Cons

GSK currently does not convert contractors to full time employees. Contractors obviously don't get invited to team events neither are they given priority for any additional training.

    Pros

Great benefits; 401k, pension, vac hours and the pay was excellent. Have persons from so many different countries working at that location, which was great. Supervisors were great.

    Cons

None, it a really great company to work for if you are selling to work and good at what you do. Company relocated to another state.

    Advice to Management

The low performing stock price for the past 4 years.

I worked at GlaxoSmithKline full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits and potential for growth is there if you play the 'go-for' role. Sr. Leadership is all over the open environment setting, thus enhancing visibility for those that are proactive, ambitious and loud. Management is very hands off, but results-target oriented.

    Cons

Company is undergoing organizational right-sizing and re-structuring itself for a potential spin off from mother group. Too much hierarchy and central-shared functions makes it feel a bit stagnant and sloppy in checking priority to support critical process. Mentoring and coaching is almost null, you trace your own way.

    Advice to Management

get leaders touch base with a reality check on the floor shops and office needs

I worked at GlaxoSmithKline full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great people. They just need more motivation and leadership.

    Cons

    Poor work-life-balance. Overtime is expected.
No sense of pride for the job. Just do it and get it done.
    Technology is slow.
    Hub environment

    Advice to Management

Motivate with action and words. Show a positive work ethic to your staff. Be a good role model. Believe it or not, the phrase, "Do as I say, not as I do," is a lousy way to encourage your staff.

Remember that empowerment is not just shrugging your shoulders and letting your staff handle it. It means showing them how important they are to the job and that their contribution matters.

I worked at GlaxoSmithKline as an intern

    Pros

A very good experience to get a feel of the industry, lots of opportunities to learn new techniques and understand the consumer healthcare world.

    Cons

Interns are restricted in their work. They should be allowed to attend more meetings to understand the broader perspective.

I have been working at GlaxoSmithKline full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Compensation package is good. Product pipeline is robust. Patient-focused culture is above industry standard. Talented sales people in specialty divisions

    Cons

Management takes a reactive versus proactive approach to problem solving. Breadth of experience is valued more than depth of experience. Many mid-level leaders though successful in previous roles are unsuited or unprepared for their current roles.

    Advice to Management

Stop using company surveys and engagement plans as a surrogate for actual conversations with your reps and first-line leaders.
