I have been working at GlaxoSmithKline full-time

    Pros

Good Pay and Benefits, decent work life balance.

    Cons

Middle management is tone deaf. They don't practice what they preach. Our values are not respected by middle management. It's disappointing.

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach. Speak up culture doesn't work if your people are afraid to speak up.

I have been working at GlaxoSmithKline full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great place to work. Good benefits, nice people.

    Cons

Management needs work. Lack of communication

    Advice to Management

Don't over hire and take people away from other jobs and then laid them off. These people have families. Don't just manage get out and know your people.

    I worked at GlaxoSmithKline full-time

    Pros

Used to be one of the best pharma companies in the US. They have great products and strong pipeline.

    Cons

Consistently having restructuring and layoffs. Advair is going generic and this is really going to impact all employees. The bonus structure is subjective and reps have no control over their bonus. Management does not care about employees and try to find a way to push out seasoned reps. Limited opportunities for growth within the field. They do not respect work life balance. Senior management is horrible and don't care about the field.

    Advice to Management

Start living your values and respect your employees. You need a comp plan that is not subjective and is consistent from manager to manager.

I worked at GlaxoSmithKline full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Most of my co-workers were top-notch

    Cons

Tout an environment of transparency, but are rarely transparent. Benefits were starting to slide the last few years and new policies have been implemented to penny and dime employees on expense reports (For example: We were not allowed to expense a coffee at the airport when traveling to a company meeting. Also not allowed to expense lunch on a day we travelled to a meeting bc one was served at the hotel even though our flight was such that we didn't arrive until AFTER the lunch buffet closed. We are expected to have wifi at home, but company decided it would no longer contribute.) Little to no opportunity to advance as last two Primary Care reorganizations have involved manager layoffs.

    Advice to Management

Needs to be a major house cleaning in terms of middle management...from the FLLs all the way up. The truly gifted leaders that people want to work for, who are inspiring, transparent, vulnerable and real, are few and far between (as opposed to in years past when GSK had many of them!!) and the majority of the current leadership team has either proven to be untrustworthy or gives the impression that they are untrustworthy. They do not walk the walk and mean and do what they say they will. Very disappointing.

I have been working at GlaxoSmithKline full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Generous benefits (medical, vacation, LTI) and good products for patients that help people feel better. Most DSMs care about their reps and develop them to be stronger.

    Cons

Extensive favoritism at senior management level and lack of true leadership skills. Unhappy workforce that is afraid to speak up and more concerned about job security. A very demotivating Sales environment to work in.

    Advice to Management

Don't assume FVPs or higher know how to connect with their teams just because of their titles. Figure out a way to get honest feedback from the field.

I worked at GlaxoSmithKline full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Competitive salary, great benefits, gym

    Cons

Almost non-existant pipeline, too much focus on speed to market, not enough on innovation, almost zero opportunity for growth and advancement

    Advice to Management

Focus on developing people and innovation, get back to science.
