I worked at GlaxoSmithKline full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Intent to seek new opportunities for growing the business. Promotion options seem to be available.

    Cons

No concerted way of making well informed decisions. Mistrust of analytic solutions. Very near term focused; very risk averse. Promotions based on relationships vs skills or merit. Very UK centric. Most of the progressive thinkers in R&D have left due to frustration.

    Advice to Management

    Clean up management decision making.

I worked at GlaxoSmithKline full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The pay and benefits were good. Training was thorough but at times excessive. GSK held sales meetings at nice locations and always took care of the details.

    Cons

In a constant environment of nothing is ever good enough. You will sacrifice many hours of family time and still be expected to give more.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to the small people and be sure to include them in your decision making. GSK used to be a family oriented company, not so anymore.

I have been working at GlaxoSmithKline (Less than a year)

    Pros

I enjoyed my team/colleagues, office building, WFH policy

    Cons

Poor management, no transparency, lack of respect for employees, lack of communication.

Management creates barriers to success rather than lead us to success. When hired, employees are promised work-life balance, high potential for mobility, managerial support and motivation. As a telesales rep, I've heard horror stories from colleagues about management, the company itself. Management has a large say in whether or not you can apply for a specific job creating a sense of feeling trapped, no freedom.

    Advice to Management

Hire managers(first line leaders) who have experience in sales and experience in human interaction

I have been working at GlaxoSmithKline full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I believe the organization has potential to continue to be an industry leader. I am proud that GSK has been recognized as an organization making a significant impact on global health.

    Cons

Disappointed with management's resistance to accept change. Management appears to perpetuate a culture that does not motivate its employees. New ideas are often dismissed with the old-fashioned rationale that, "this is the way we have always done it," quip. Very little growth/development potential. After a year of trying to make a contribution to improve processes, I have realized that I do not fit into the GSK culture. A real shame since I had previously worked at GSK for ten years, and only returned last year with great hopes for opportunities with the Novartis integration. Looking to move on now.

    Advice to Management

Listen to, acknowledge, and value your employees who eager to work hard and make significant contributions to the organization.

I worked at GlaxoSmithKline full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There is provision for Flexitime. The company has Good products and Good business practices compared to competitors. A lot of processes are taught through online learning and IT support is robust.

    Cons

Micromanagement, too much change, little tolerance for the new, little diversity. Non competitive pay

    Advice to Management

Lead from the front, don't take credit on behalf of your staff. Stop micromanaging. Intervene on behalf of your team when expectations of them from above country or the GM are unrealistic

    Pros

Strategic goals hit, the objectives promised to the street and the city were achieved. CEO is doing what he promised.

    Cons

Shift in business model is a sign of the times, not just for GSK but also for all big pharma.
