    I worked at GlaxoSmithKline full-time

    Pros

Great buildings and healthy, open workspaces.

    Cons

Upper management needs to be more aware of what middle management is doing.

I worked at GlaxoSmithKline full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

GSK is a respectable, fair employer.

    Cons

Company is always trying to save money which means taking it away from the people who make the sales. Sales incentives are virtually none. If you're a high performer and you want uncapped potential, do not work here.

    Advice to Management

I worked for GSK for 17 years and each year became less and less fun. GSK became a very "cold" place to work - it was just a job.

I worked at GlaxoSmithKline full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    FTE hours 37.5 a week,

    Cons

Layoff's every year. The Candidate selection process is pathetic, you get to keep your position based on words you fill out on a piece of paper.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees the way they value the company. Treat them better than a piece of paper!

I have been working at GlaxoSmithKline full-time

    Pros

GSK has a great pipe line for respiratory products.

    Cons

Company does not look at the realities of a territory and takes a cookie cutter approach and expects it to work in all areas of the country.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your representatives. If you talk the talk then be ready to walk the walk. Perception is not reality.

I have been working at GlaxoSmithKline full-time

    Pros

People are friendly and professional. Salaries are high, and the education reimbursement policy is generous. We are given adequate time to work on our own research or personal development.

    Cons

Lab equipment is old, and resources are extremely strained. There is constant fear of downsizing. Software applications, such as electronic notebooks, are not user friendly and therefore work is not efficient. I am certainly not surrounded by the "best and brightest" people here.

    Advice to Management

Give the scientists the resources to produce good work. Eliminate the fear of change, so that they can focus on science instead.

I worked at GlaxoSmithKline full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The pay was good and the ability to work at home was a great benefit. Compared to other companies the medical benefits were still decent.

    Cons

Moving to hot-desking everywhere (including labs!). Like most companies they are in a constant state of downsizing. Benefits were getting reduced as well. Most IT was outsourced.

    I worked at GlaxoSmithKline full-time

    Pros

GSK has great products and excellent benefits.

    Cons

GSK's incentive comp plan is terrible. Sales reps are given a "rating" by their manager and it's very subjective. Sales reps are not bonused on their sales numbers.

    Advice to Management

    Change your incentive comp plan

I worked at GlaxoSmithKline as an intern

    Pros

    * Well established and well directed internship program.
    * Quality Internship projects within one's area of expertise.
    * Helpful, intelligent, friendly, and qualified intern project leadership & employees.

    Cons

    * Company leadership decided to downsize the departments and staff during my summer internship. This resulted in being housed in a wing of the building that was only 5-8% occupied. This also resulted in being around many sad & upset individuals. My direct boss and most of the team I was involved with maintained their jobs - but I could tell they were upset seeing many of their colleagues lose their job. I could see they were also very concerned about their own job security. Because of the job security issue and the way management addressed the downsize, I did not pursue a job with GSK after I graduated.

    Advice to Management

Insulate summer interns from company downsizing to maximize likelihood of their return post graduation.

    Pros

Professional company atmosphere; culture is to do the right thing and have patients as first priority; goal is to be a trusted pharma company

    Cons

Bureaucratic; continuous reorganizations what result in unexpected downsizing and ending of projects without much notice; change to processes and team structure at a rapid pace; employees are often overworked or not secure in future; many employees are contract workers or ex employees who were laid off and have been hired back without benefits

    Advice to Management

monitor employee workload; invest in full time employees
