    Positive Outlook

I worked at GlaxoSmithKline as an intern

    Pros

Good pay. Interns are given great exposure to company opportunities. Department was prepared with projects that lasted the full term of the internship.

    Cons

Interns and temps are treated as second-class citizens. The day-to-day can become very monotonous if not in a rotational program.

I worked at GlaxoSmithKline (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Challenging work. Excellent benefits and total reward packages. Products and pipeline are good.

    Cons

Strategy appears to change based on the business you are in. Leaders need to be more focused on growing and developing talent. There is always downsizing.

    Advice to Management

Identify and agree on strategy. Know the talent you have. Be open minded and fair.

I have been working at GlaxoSmithKline full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

No stress of sales goals, easy to achieve target bonus (not to surpass), reach and frequency metrics, as long as you achieve qtrly metrics little pressure

    Cons

Subjective opinion of manager dictates your bonus achievement, no matter how good territory sales, constant busy work and projects to try and increase integrated rating for bonus payout

    Advice to Management

Incentivize sales reps at least at a district level to keeps reps motivated, personal bias from some managers and their own desire to look more important and needed prevents mgrs from rating members of their team higher

I worked at GlaxoSmithKline full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good friendly R&D colleagues at the RTP site, most of which were let go in 2015.
Some "DPUs" were bringing some interesting programs to the pipeline.

    Cons

Huge R&D organization with lots of layers, massive bureaucracy, all process driven with zero thinking or creativity, brutal inter-site competition. GSK now knows that it cannot compete as an R&D organization, it's unable to discover and develop new drugs, new CEO coming in 2017 to try to stop downward spiral, good luck.

    Pros

The building is really nice and there are a lot of free perks

    Cons

Very corporate, lots of change all the time. Experience depends on business area however

    Advice to Management

Not all interns get as involved as they would like to

I worked at GlaxoSmithKline full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Pharma will always be lucrative as long as they keep the development pipeline full of assets that can go onto successful trials, and there lies the Achilles heel of the industry. That and CEO issues and law suits.

    Cons

GSK slaughtered its R&D presence in NC over a decade. Once a predominate tenant in the Research Park area, GSK left its employees with pro-rated severances and the area with shells of empty buildings for off-shored and contracted work. One excuse actually given in 2014, 'real-estate was cheaper in Philly.'

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

Large company with many career development options. Safety first priority. Work is relatively easy to learn and execute. Shift work schedule allows many days off.

    Cons

Temporary employment is dependent on successful and ongoing production of current drug products. Changes in manufacturing forecast causes layoffs for contract employees.

    Advice to Management

Upper level management needs to better develop supervisors and managers to better lead production teams. Employees are seemingly promoted without skills or support to develop into effective management.
