I worked at Glencore full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Full autonomy because huge mess for a lot of things. Although they just hire juniors and are cheap on salaries, they expect people to do everything in a project, from commercial tasks, to coding, to assessing future revenues and push internally in the holding company to get budget for the very projects they said was defined before they hired their employees... More than a start up, you are basically self employed and...

    Cons

No training at all (if some people have time at the end of their day, they can be nice and explain). Low salaries, no structure, no hr management. They ask employees to advance all professional expenses, going up to thousands of dollars sometimes they take months to reimburse with bad will. Very bad atmosphere within the company, very low level of team spirit. High turnover, nobody wants to stay which increase the messy...

    Advice to Management

Just keep the few profitable parts and end the joke for all the startup like two people entities you took over all around the place . If you cannot offer a decent structure for all of them, their is no point in joining all those little projects together.

    Pros

Great colleagues. Strong camaderie. Good office location. Good name on CV.

    Cons

Terribly managers. Either had an uninspiring one after a tyrannical one. Others had disinterested ones. Not sure what's worst.

    Advice to Management

Managers need training to be managers.

    I worked at Glencore

    Pros

    - Nice office - Great location - Teams are very social and laid-back - Content (trading) is interesting

    Cons

    - No career advancement opportunities in IT - In-flexible working hours: your presence at the office is mandatory! - No transferrable skills - Zero emphasis on training and education

    Advice to Management

Start addressing the needs of a new generation of employees: they are consummate professionals who want the flexibility of an employer to be able to deliver their best work. Spell out a clear advancement path and how to reach a milestone. Give a budget for education and training so the new generation can spell out their own ambitions.

I have been working at Glencore for more than 6 years

    Pros

-Large company -Global outlook with diverse set of operations and subsidiaries -Despite recent price fluctuations, financial situation has stabilised.

    Cons

-Very inconsistent employee experience, satisfaction and perks will vary widely by business unit and country -If working for an operational site, no opportunity to move up. Have observed extreme slowdown in turnover of top site management limited opportunity for those not coming from the Glencore PLC arm of the company. -Canadian Salaries are market average, nothing out the ordinary. -Very poor employee engagement...

    Advice to Management

-We are no longer a small trading firm, a 200k+ strong workforce requires a different approach. -Despite the flat nature of the current structure, there is still a great deal of redundancy. -The hostile approach to interactions between business units and subsidiaries needs to end. -Be more open to having employees learn about the company and the broad goals and objectives. The best decisions are often made by those...

I worked at Glencore full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Great exposure from a flat organisational structure. As a recent graduate you will be expected to take on big responsibilities from day 1. Good pay and, if you make the cut, excellent potential pay.

    Cons

Unclear career development prospects (unless you're becoming a trader of course) and risk management / trading is at times very repetitive.

    Advice to Management

Challenge your graduates or junior analysts to create business development ideas. Rotate graduates more between desks.
