I worked at Glendale Community College (Arizona) part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Chemistry Chair is easy to contact, approachable, knowledgeable, and friendly.
Colleagues are intelligent and eager to help each other out.

    Cons

Honestly, not enough hours. More of a limitation set by the Administration than by the department itself, though.

I have been working at Glendale Community College (Arizona) part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This job is very flexible and a good environment when its not too busy, no cleaning or demeaning work.Get respect and admiration from other students that need help and advice as they are usually freshman .

    Cons

Few hours , most of the time 10-16 per week. The workload can be busy and stressful with all the employees being students not math professionals.

Extremely difficult to get a full-time position.

I have been working at Glendale Community College (Arizona) part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Close to home; nice campus; perks include book clubs, lunch-time meditation, wellness lunch and learn

    Cons

Part-time employees treated as second-class citizens; not included in staff and department meetings, each department must have at least 2 FT employees in place at all times - PT employees not allowed to be left alone while FT at lunch or on bathroom break, not even allowed to park in employee-only parking spots! Management, from Chancellor on down the chain, is out-of-touch with their employees. Internal politics is atrocious. Pay not commensurate with responsibilities and experience. No such thing as merit promotions.

    Advice to Management

Trust your employees to do the job you hired them to do. Communicate with your employees. Respect your employees.

I have been working at Glendale Community College (Arizona) (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedule, wonderful students, opportunities for personal growth, free/reduced tuition, pleasant campus

    Cons

Horrible leadership, political in-fighting, cronyism running rampant, extremely low employee morale, lack of resources which creates in-fighting for what resources are available, the most toxic work environment I have ever seen!

    Advice to Management

Stop treating employees so terribly, develop some people skills and re-find your moral compass

I worked at Glendale Community College (Arizona) (More than a year)

    Pros

Good, supportive department Chair and colleagues. Pleasant work environment conducive to those who like to work independently. I didn't experience any micro-managing.

    Cons

Few opportunities for full-time employment. The pay is decent if you don't teach a labor-intensive subject, such as English. I also found that the number of available classes to teach fluctuated from semester to semester.

    Advice to Management

    Add more full-time positions.

    Pros

Working for GCC is great. They work with my school schedule and have a very friendly staff.

    Cons

They don't have a current position as a full-time graphic artist. Only temps.
