I worked at Glenview Park District (Less than a year)

    Pros

They pay fairly well for lifeguards. You have the opportunity to work as a morning guard and earn an even higher wage.

    Cons

More than average amount of inservices. Felt very cliquish as well. Struggled to make good schedules. Job was pretty boring too

    Advice to Management

Inservice should not be as often and could be more efficient (less time with ice breakers, we don't all have to be friends we just need to know cpr)

I have been working at Glenview Park District full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The park district offers a competitive benefit package and some outstanding facility access for full time employees. Like most organizations, your experiences will vary greatly based on your division, facility, and manager and I have an outstanding manager.

The facilities are very well maintained, the park district is fiscally healthy, and will typically give you the resources that you need to be successful.

    Cons

You are expected to be available 24/7, which is unrealistic for the level of pay. The administrative staff has too much turnover, as the pay for IT and Accounting jobs is significantly low.

    Advice to Management

The park district is an industry leader in so many ways, but it should be better at championing work-life balance. There is no reason that most supervisors should be working 6 days per week.

They were always supportive. There was nothing that I felt I couldn't share with them.

The cons were so minimal that they don't require a comment.

    Advice to Management

Just continue to support your teachers with the amazingly wonderful support you give them.

I worked at Glenview Park District part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Easy work, great interactions between fellow employees, easy uniforms, a lot of downtime to get other stuff done

    Cons

Upper management is flying by the seat of their pants, terrible communication, people get promoted solely by seniority not by their work, too cheap to fix broken things

    Advice to Management

    Be consistent with your discipline.

Promote those who deserve it, not those who have been there the longest.

Know that you run pools, not country clubs.

I worked at Glenview Park District part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    liked the online shift system

    Cons

it's a harder lifeguarding job than most, country clubs usually pay better and have easier shift rotation as well. Sometimes had over 1 hour 20 min up in the chair in a row and it gets to be a little too much.

    Advice to Management

hire more people, and lower the shift durations up in the chair.

I worked at Glenview Park District part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Some good coworkers. Can come back every summer if you do a good job.

    Cons

    Poor hours, strict work environment.

    Advice to Management

Hire someone with a business degree or HR. You need to hire the correct number of people so everyone can get the hours they are supposed to work.
