I have been working at Glion Institute of Higher Education full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Small enough institution so that it is possible to personally know almost everybody. Mostly excellent teaching colleagues with very international backgrounds and a huge amount of knowledge. Very international student body. Most courses are delivered in English.

    Cons

All the cons of private education: Faculty workload is steadily increasing (more admin work, less vacation, bigger classes, less time to grade), leading to either burnout or a lowering of academic quality.
As a teacher, you'll possibly have at GIHE a lower salary than a swiss high school teacher, and a lot less vacation!
Some students are a pain to deal with, but they pay a lot, so they use that power to make faculty life stressful.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your faculty, and do not repeat: "If they (faculty) don't like it, they can leave".

I worked at Glion Institute of Higher Education full-time

    Pros

The location and beauty of the campuses are as lovely as you will find anywhere. The facilities are adequate.

    Cons

Don't know Ms Hou but a lot of her senior management is disingenuous and condescending. Typical "you're not one of us" attitude to anyone below the C level. That's commonplace, but what was awful was that they sponge people's ideas and claim them as their own, which lowers morale and makes staff not want to contribute. Saw them interview candidates just to cannibalize their expertise. If you happen to be interviewed, be aware they often see it as free consulting. Do NOT give them your presentation materials or detailed expertise because they will take it and run.

    Advice to Management

Stealing ideas and trying to do things on the cheap while at the same time parading Glion's #1 rating is bad form. What does it cost to acknowledge the innovations and improvements suggested by others? And worst of all STOP using interviews as free consulting sessions! Had some candidates contact me post-interview and they really let me have it. Thing is, their allegations were 100% correct. So embarrassing.

I have been working at Glion Institute of Higher Education full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Extremely international, generally very committed and very competent faculty, overall very pleasant and rather hard-working students, friendly work atmosphere amongst faculty, sound faculty-students relationship, reasonably supportive middle management, great facilities, prestigious name.

    Cons

19th century top management style, Soviet era processes, milking strategy: very heavy, inefficient administrative procedures, little regard for customer and staff satisfaction, command-and-control style of management, "do this or leave" style of "negotiations". Management focusses exclusively on short-term gains (this year's EBITDA) at the expense of long-term performance and vision such as maintaining brand image and differentiating from cheaper alternatives through quality of education and students' experience. Latest trends: 20% extra work for faculty in 2017, no additional pay, less holiday. Lecturers are also strongly encouraged to provide a more personalized service to students and publish research under the school's name ... but are asked to do all of this during their free time.

    Advice to Management

Make sure you move on to your next prey before the market finally notices how much you have damaged the organisation and its reputation, then blame your successors for the subsequent failure.

    Pros

Good facilities, state of the art audio/ video equipments

    Cons

Rude students, poor pay, lecturers were given ridiculous administrative duties. If you have a PhD and you have teaching experience stay away!

    Advice to Management

Increase salaries for lecturers, try to be more selective when it comes to students. Let lecturers do what they are supposed to do.

I have been working at Glion Institute of Higher Education as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

International environment, friendly atmosphere and ability to travel around the world, I communicated with general managers of worldwide knows hotels

    Cons

It is university not a huge corporation. That is why it us hard sometimes to think only about business because the most important is to provide high quality education

    Advice to Management

Look at the company not only from the point of earning money, but also from the side how to provide best services to people and how to get the most of the loyal customers

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Glion Institute of Higher Education full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Laureate network for development, international climate, nice location, Switzerland, full-time contract and benefits, some wonderful people

    Cons

Nepotism, favoritism, change-averse employees, negativity caused by too many part-timers

    Advice to Management

The CEO should consider more the individuals who deliver the product rather than only discussing with middle management.
Unhealthy attitudes are influencing morale and could be undermining the quality. Good, qualified people need to be reassured about their future in the company and negative elements need to be brought to light. This company has so many things going for it and the image of the school is magic. There is an untapped reserve of great, interesting and qualified individuals being overlooked in favor of bullies, clans and secret alliances.
    Reduce the excessive nepotism (please).

    Pros

    Nice campus environment in Switzerland.

    Cons

Salaries compared to local governmental swiss institutions is approx. 40% less! Many top executives have been fired during last months.

    Advice to Management

HQ is not aware of the high living standards in Switzerland! People are poorly paid and many staff members are unmotivated. Salaries should be increased dramatically!

    Pros

Atmosphère positive, professeurs agréables, étudiants polis, très bonne cantine, enseignement privé avec relativement peu d'administratif.

    Cons

Nombreux changements organisationnels laissant l'équipe de professeurs dans un stress élevé plutôt que s'occupant des clients étudiants

    Advice to Management

Davantage benchmarker ses pratiques par rapport à la concurrence
