I worked at Global Communities full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I met some really great people there, which, is the best way to survive in such a toxic environment. There was also the possibility to travel, if you are the type that wants to be on the go.

    Cons

Management was terrible and created an unfriendly work atmosphere. Most would place blame on employees instead of working together to figure out a problem.

    Advice to Management

Hire responsible managers that can create a work environment that people thrive in and actually enjoy. Employees stay where they feel wanted.

    Pros

Field staff are incredible, people are wonderful, smart & caring.

    Cons

Rife with internal politics, lack of vision for staff and their futures, absolutely no concern for actual impact apart from questionable donor reporting indicators, a white man's club.

    Pros

Benefits and salary are good, many of the people are good. However, executive favors those who are not contributing because they are flattered by the pandering. They overlook the friction, the lack of results, the waste of money.

    Cons

Politics, lack of business ethics, favoritism,

    Pros

The support staff (meaning anyone without a management title) are great. The projects in some of the field offices are really good. The field staff at all levels are for the most part great.

    Cons

The Vice Presidents work as a united force to promote their own agenda's. They do not connect or work with any staff that they don't see as supporting their ideas even if those ideas hurt the organization. Ethics and abilities are not requirements for a senior level position at CHF but that may change with the new president. The atmosphere at CHF is tense and negative. The turn over rate is very high.

    Advice to Management

A change in senior management at CHF could make this a great place to work.

    Pros

Great staff - fun and intelligent. The mission is noble.

    Cons

The upper management makes decisions based on emotions and politics instead of concentrating on the success of the company. Things are promised that don't come to fruition. Huge amount of staff turnover. There is no clear company strategy and no directive to staff in order to know we are working toward a common goal. Company information comes across by rumor.

    Advice to Management

Start communicating to your employees. A little trust and respect toward the employees that you think are good goes a long way. Stop making everyone feel replaceable.

    Pros

The list gets smaller and smaller of anything good about this company. As long as David Weiss is being lead by Eric O'Neil, nothing good can come out of this place.

    Cons

Very bad customer service. Reception isn't allowed to transfer a call unless the caller has the name of the person, not just the title or department. Sounds like a knee-jerk management reaction to being caught sleeping at the helm.

I have been working at Global Communities as a contractor

    Pros

Beautiful mission, collegiate work environment, nice people at program level and junior staff willing to work hard and make a difference.

    Cons

Disheartening to see how taxpayer dollars can be wasted. Among many problems are lack of professionalism, favoritism, no job security, lots of office politics, no mobility, no respect for junior staff, very bad HR, poor leadership and no strategy.

    Advice to Management

None -- they are not interested anyway.

    Pros

There are talented, good, and smart people at the junior/mid level, though they are all looking to leave.

    Cons

This place is truly not a good work environment. Senior leadership pushes work and decision making responsibility onto junior staff in order to proect themselves from potential consequences. There is a real need to change and manage senior management, but there is no leadership to ensure accountability. Sadly, this continues to be the case even after the change in CEOs.

    Advice to Management

Reduce the size of senior management and remove non-performers/non-leaders.
