I worked at Global Communities full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

If you can catch on quickly, there really are a lot of opportunities to apply what you learned from grad school and experience the realities of international development. Great team - real sense of "work hard, play hard".

    Cons

I left after a change in leadership. The new CEO didn't bring the "heart" that Michael Doyle provided for the org. He didn't come from international development, nor did he bring CEO experience - so it was taking him a while to figure out how to best lead a business of this size.

    Pros

fast-paced environment with lots of work to be done, but lower-tier staff are under-valued and under-appreciated. Many opportunities to learn and network at events

    Cons

Staff are very much underpaid. Long hours sometimes, and work carries into weekend.

    Pros

Decent people. Good benefits. Building is located in a nice spot.

    Cons

Turnover. Departments do not understand one another. Poor communication. HR makes people feel bad. They will go outside to hire new person and overpay instead of internal promotions. Everyone always looking to leave.

    Advice to Management

Promote from within, retain people, make it a good place to work.
