I worked at Global Compliance Services as a contractor (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Flexible work, easy and simple work

    Cons

Contracting for GCS is a one-way street. You can perform stellar work over many years, been loyal and hard working, dutiful and diligent -- often going over and beyond (e.g. helping out with "closeouts" when they are in a pinch) -- and represented the company in a most professional manner but when one client has an issue (which was largely their issue, based on a prior bad experience with their audit) and causes a hassle for GCS staff, your work will get questioned, after providing years of dedication and reputable service. If your schedule and circumstances change after "accepting an assignment," resulting in your need to ask for an adjustment, be prepared to be accused of "not wanting" to do the work as originally accepted and to be terminated for the mere question. GCS will expect the utmost flexibility of its contractors without providing same. Nevermind all the great qualities you may have brought to be company, you are disposable and will be treated like *insert derogatory term here.*

    Advice to Management

Reward and recognize, or least have a modicum of flexibility for, contractors who have provided excellent service to you for many years.

I have been working at Global Compliance Services as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Can think of none at this point

    Cons

Poor leadership & derelict management; habitually inconsistent; disregards responsibility to contractors who provide a large portion of their services; almost never take responsibility for failures; extraordinarily unfair treatment of contractors by imposing changes that create hardships for carrying out duties. Have worsened since recent merger.

    Advice to Management

The bulk of your business is carried out by contractors. Consider remembering this when deciding to randomly delay pay to contractors by five business days, without reasonable notification (or SOME notification). If you are going to impose changes to guidelines, particularly for PDMA assignments, advise contractors carrying out said assignments in advance. Rather than making changes that are often learned while conducting audits. Increase pay for assignments to help offset travel costs (no increase in assignment pay in over three years). Stop biting off more than you can chew.

    Pros

If you are not immediately in the Charlotte office, the work schedule is flexible, but they push people to be in the office as much as possible. This is NOT how the job was described to me when I first began. The creative talent there is very good and typically your peers are nice to work with because you are entrenched with them.

    Cons

The executive and middle management of this company is nothing short of completely foolish and incompetent. No offense to people in Marketing, but they absolutely should not be running a company. There was never a holistic approach taken to putting management in place. The board would pick whoever was the cheapest and sleaziest. Now, the company is in financial disrepair and crumbling quickly. Unfortunately for women, this is an old boys club and they're running it into the ground.

    Advice to Management

Generally speaking, managers should hire people that are *smarter* than they are. That should be no problem here. Most people of average intelligence could run the company as well as this group.

I worked at Global Compliance Services full-time

    Pros

great atmosphere, laid back team leads and gentle criticism.

    Cons

Tthey were bought out. Became stricter in measuring and evaluating employees' performance to a somewhat unfair manner.
