I have been working at Global Language Solutions full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    1) Free snacks and drinks 2) Used to have a nice office

    Cons

    1) The leadership and upper managers are completely disconnected from the production cycle. Those who assume these positions, especially the two personnel with job title "production managers", are completely ignorant when it comes to the understanding of the translation industry. In other words, though with the title "production manager", they were not able to provide any useful guidance/advice when real issues arise. Whenever there is an issue, their natural response was always to find someone to blame. 2) The company in general lacks an effective mechanism to distribute workload rather evenly among its employees. The company has several offices spread in Asia, United States and Europe. Theoretically, workload should be distributed based on factors such as time zone, number of personnel, complexity of projects, etc. However, the company adopted a very simple, ineffective and somewhat stupid way to distribute workload - number of projects. What they do is to look at the "number of projects" you currently have in your plate, and determine if your workload is enough. The problem with this metric is that sometimes certain projects can get insanely complex, and do need more efforts on them. 3) Racism. The upper managers had already developed a habit of hurling blames for whatever issues that arise. To make things worse, the company specifically targeted people with a minority/immigrant background. Whenever there is an issue, the managers would quickly find anyone with minority/immigrant background to blame for that issue. Roughly half of the company's employees consist of women/Latinos/East Asians/Indians. They took measly salaries but were asked to do way more work.

I worked at Global Language Solutions full-time

    Pros

Management team is very friendly and easy to talk to. Benefits are great and there is lots of room for growth and internal advancement.

    Cons

Turnover is pretty high so workloads tend to become overwhelming. Some department heads tend to not work well with other departments. Some departments are just short-staffed and could use more people.

    Pros

Learned good skills, friendly coworkers, give out a lot of bonuses for good work
