I worked at Global Linguist Solutions full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pays satisfactory, many areas better than competitors

    Cons

Notorious in not keeping promises, like reduce salary before the contract ends, promise free meals, but doesn't provide, cuts vacations. Keeps moving the goal post when the game is on. Starts salary count after you have reached the deployment, you spend a week or more without salary. When you are called from home at their office in VA, per diem does not include food.
Kuwait housing is very crammed in a barrack. The average age of the linguists is about 50, they have to live in barracks and use open plumbing system.

    Advice to Management

Leadership means, your people first. Never forget, and never condemn them, never threaten them about their job security.

I have been working at Global Linguist Solutions full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Small teams that work well together; good atmosphere

    Cons

Management has a high turnover and causes issues when they are constantly changing the company's goal

    Advice to Management

Don't ignore the "worker bee's"; reward them with bonuses or annual salary increases. Hiring more senior staff who do not contribute to the day to day is not the answer when other staff has been in the company for years

  6. "good experience"

    Pros

    good pay, very good benefits,

Generally, the company is super product focused. Most of the linguist are super talented and work very hard. Processes are tailored to productivity, and not cast in stone. All of which makes this is an amazing environment for someone who wants to create, learn, and innovate.

Despite sometimes long and odd hours, the company is very supportive of a work-life balance. There's reasonable flexibility in work hours and at some flexibility in work location (though this is not cart Blanche, and does depend on the role, the team, the situation, etc.)

Senior management is awesome - very transparent, honest, open, accessible, insanely smart and talented, yet modest, and appreciative of employees' contributions.

    Cons

A big part of the company culture is centered on open and honest communication. Senior management works very hard to keep politics out of the culture, and we are taught to "talk _to_ people, not about them", to "listen with intense curiosity", to "tell others how they impact you". There is ongoing training and reinforcement around this, and when team dynamics are out of kilter, management will rally around the team and help them work through their issues by encouraging them to talk about their feelings. Yeah, it's a little like therapy. No, it's a _lot_ like therapy. Many employees have broken down in tears while examining and sharing their feelings. Note: There's no requirement to share anything or talk about anything you don't want to. However, you are asked to think and talk about what's making you sad, angry, happy, or scared. And when you are in a room full of people who are sharing their feelings, you might feel some pressure to do the same.

    Advice to Management

Keep investing in internal promotion and growth. It's the most effective way to nurture the culture.

Keep on being you, and keep being fearless enough to show that you're a human just like everyone else.
