I have been working at Globe Life and Accident Insurance Company full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Work with great people who want to learn and expand their careers
    Good work to life balance
Management goes out of their way to help you when needed

    Cons

Team seemed unorganized when i started working with the company. It took two weeks to get the proper systems installed on my computer. I was originally assigned a laptop but was given a desktop instead. To switch from a desktop to a laptop took over 6 months.
There is high turnover within the IT department, some employees are lifers but the majority are new. Management tends to micromanage analysts due to down time towards the end of the week.

    Advice to Management

Add more structure for advancement, currently there seems to be little to no room for career growth unless you jump to a different team within a new department.

Its important to give credit when due to employees that give their all to the company. Without them, the company would fail so these people need the encouragement that the company does appreciate their hard work.

I have been working at Globe Life and Accident Insurance Company full-time

    Pros

    - Some very amazing people who are at their fields. Those select few are great teachers and mentors.
     - If you work with the managers of the departments, you'll learn a lot in a year.
    - Amazing pension if you stay long enough.
    - About average 401K, but with good options to select from..
    - Very close to the Westfield Mall and a local park. Great for getting out for errands or having lunch.
     - The parent company, Torchmark Corp. is good to their employees.

    Cons

    - No vertical or horizontal movement. Maybe after 5 years.
     - Small office, cubes, and lots of yelling as certain people don't want to get up and walk 20 feet.
     - Salary is not up to industry standards. The "flexibility" they offer does not make up for it.
     - Benefits besides the Pension are avg. if not lower.
     - Micromanagement from the top down, but in different words.
     - Passive-aggressive communication.
     - People have been belittled enough they cry at work.
     - Ideas and solutions are listened to, but management always goes with their own choice..
     - Not an enterprise level company / more of a division that acts as a start-up. Very lean staffed.
     - Campaigns can take months or years to launch. Things move very slow here usually, but randomly you'll have a blitz of working 80 hours to meet unrealistic deadlines.
     - No work/life balance.
    - They've lost 5 people in 5 years who report to the same person... not a coincidence.

    Advice to Management

Stop micromanaging everything and delegate to the respective managers. And stop expecting admins to do a coordinator or specialist's job while not paying them for it.. It is great that they get to learn and grow, but it should be at their request. They're never paid enough and the stress put on them is abusive. They're team members too.

I have been working at Globe Life and Accident Insurance Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Training provided as needed. Opportunity exists to continue your education via LOMA.

    Cons

Pay does not sustain your cost of living. High turnover.

    Advice to Management

Increase the pay of the Retention Specialists. If this role is so important to the bottomline then the specialist should be able to maintain a decent standard of living.

I have been working at Globe Life and Accident Insurance Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There are 2-3 corporate activities per year plus quite a few giveways. There are food vendor options on the campus. Insurance industry is stable and company is stable.

    Cons

Poor corporate culture and management doesn't seem bothered by it. Benefits package is minimal and there is no flexibility. Negotiate as raises and promotions are incredibly difficult to come by once you have been hired, that initial salary plus 2% or less is all you can expect. Each department is silo'ed and are even at odds with other departments. No team spirit in most departments.

    Advice to Management

Take a look at the cons and work to create a competitive compensation package to slow the exodus. Improve corporate culture and department cooperation.

    Pros

Flexible. Laidback. Can make good money...

    Cons

Except the chances are slim to get compensated. Leads are weak. Phone system is a joke. Get more complains about mailers then interested prospects.

    Advice to Management

Old ways practices. Evolve to the modern world, engage with your employees and create new ideas.
