I worked at Globecomm full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They are very much engineering centric; the people define the company.

Very wide engineering talent pool with satellite as a central knowledge base; very uncommon and unique.

Career opportunities in both Commercial and Government; they allow team members to grow their careers in the areas that they want to work in.

Flexibility in work locations; have seen work at at home for those positions/functions where a decentralized structure is feasible.

Have seen many senior technical leaders start their careers at level 1 operations center and grow from there.

    Cons

On-going evolution of the organization creates constant change; it can be challenging if you're not in tune with it or not comfortable in change.

I have been working at Globecomm full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Interesting, diverse work environment. Good group of people to work with. Unfortunately not much more to say on the positive side.

    Cons

Since sale of company 5 years ago, management has consistently deteriorated. Culture is on the decline. Good employees are leaving on a regular basis.

    Advice to Management

Honest assessment of companies future would go a long way in instilling a sense of security. Constantly telling employees we are doing great, followed by repeated layoffs and company sale is no a good approach.

I worked at Globecomm full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It used to be a great company started by Engineers but not anymore. May be a good place for a short while for someone trying to learn satellite communications before moving on to reputable firms

    Cons

Too much of politics and too many incompetent leaders
No strategy, no vision, no roadmap, no 401k, no pay hikes. Stay away. There is no place for loyalty.

    Advice to Management

    None

I have been working at Globecomm full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent commute and free pizza once a month.

    Cons

Too many to list- already told no raises or bonuses, many cuts have caused every department to be understaffed and over-worked, cuts in other departments causing more work to fall to ours, can't trust upper management, will tell you "life work balance" as long as you live to work, everyone out to save their jobs so no teamwork.

    Advice to Management

Tell the truth. Of note -Keith Hall is no longer CEO, he was smart, took his money and ran!!

    Pros

Good company before it was destroyed by greed and private ownership. Many good employees.

    Cons

Pattern of taking from the employees when the company doesn't make it's numbers but not much left to take. Owners expected to quickly flip the company for a big profit, but when that didn't happen, the cuts started. There is no visible plan or strategy other than working the financials every month. Senior leaders don't communicate to the worker bees at all. Horrible benefits package. High deductible health plan. No 401K match. No raises for a long time. No more accrued vacation. Most departments understaffed. Many employees that leave are not replaced. The remaining employees are expected to pick up the slack. The leaders talk a good game but but their actions show they really don't care.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your employees and communicate a plan.

I worked at Globecomm (More than 3 years)

    Pros

An abundance of open desks and chairs because so many people are being let go.

There's an outside chance that DH be in the wings.

    Cons

Common knowledge the owners are shopping this company to another buyer - so they are snipping costs whenever possible. The core cadre at the top have circled their wagons to cover each other - the rest are expendable.

    Advice to Management

It sends a bad message when all the VP's with car allowances are pulling in with high end Audi's and Mercedes - and the rest of the ee's are looking to lock up at the bike rack. Sell the place already. Tear off the bandaid. Get it over-with and move on.

I worked at Globecomm full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There are no pros. This company was one of the worst that I have ever worked for. There are no raises and no bonuses, and no work-life balance unless you are a director. Too many co-workers willing to stab you in the back to make themselves look good to their managers who are too clueless, and too often absent to even notice. Too much instability. Right after the new year they laid off about 30 employees, some of whom had worked for the company more than 15 years. There is no loyalty.

    Cons

Everything about this company is a con. They do have free coffee and tea, though, as if that makes up for everything else. My manager wanted me to work 50 hrs a week, every week, so they wouldn't have to hire another body. I had to take work home to try to stay afloat, all of which was uncompensated. For a high-tech company, their software is completely antiquated.

    Advice to Management

I only have advice for a potential candidate - Run!!!!!

I have been working at Globecomm full-time

    Pros

Unlimited sick time accrual, great deal of independence, some of my colleagues are very skilled at what they do, established supplier of telecommunication services and infrastructure, interesting work, long history with some customers

    Cons

Senior Management is very disconnected from day to day activity, lack of Senior Management strategic vision, no focus on core business, sales of new services relies on a few sales personnel and others sales personnel under-perform with no expectation of repercussion, benefits package is less than attractive to new talent, very limited potential for promotion or advancement

    Advice to Management

Better communication of strategic goals and how we get there and how we as employees can make that happen, better communication of direction of company and long range plan, time to start cutting at the senior management structure to create a more robust response to changing market requirements, start holding management and sales accountable for poor performance as a company cannot survive if it is only depending on the alpha employees to carry the day. Stop punishing those who perform well with more work, it destroys morale and leads to reduced performance as there is no benefit to doing a great job.

    Pros

Great for entry level engineering roles. The company has a very strong satellite communications integration portfolio with government, media and enterprise clients. Managing some great, one of a kind projects. There's serious learning opportunity.

    Cons

Company tends to work in silos since it's project oriented. If you are not involved in a project with a positive outlook, you are in danger of getting laid off without notice. This happens on a periodic basis. I have seen entire department staff let go in multiple occasions.

    Advice to Management

Constant cycle of layoffs and rehiring poisons the employee trust and morale. Work on retaining talent and transfer of knowledge and expertise among different departments. Human resources needs to do a better job.
