I have been working at Gnip full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

The review title is one of the core values at Gnip, and it shows in the company culture. Employees are "given the keys" and expected/empowered to create value on day one. The other core values are also excellent; generally, the company is built on trust and a shared desire to progress, together. Gnip has committed to working toward a diverse work culture (particularly important in the technology space), and genuinely...

      Cons

The last year or two have included rapid growth at Gnip, in both employee count and market acceptance/adoption/demand. At times, this has led to the kind of "growing pains" that most growth-stage companies likely experience when they're really hitting their stride. Occasionally this has manifested in terms of trouble communicating effectively across the organization. I do not foresee this being a long-term issue for...

      Advice to Management

As we continue to scale in both people and mission, maintain a strong focus on the core values that got us this far. Ruthlessly prioritize direct communication over process, protocol, and hierarchies of management.

I have been working at Gnip full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

People, culture, challenge, technology, variety, growth, impact, leadership, vision. The combination of all of these and the impact Gnip has on the industry is a key reason I came out of retirement, specifically.

      Cons

Definitely not the kind of place where you walk in and expect a manual handed to you. It's an evolving culture and industry, so if you're looking for a job description where you execute somebody else's initiatives, you might be in the wrong spot. It's a 6 year old company, but still operates very much like a startup. Some see this as a con, so worth noting here.

      Advice to Management

      Continue being thought leaders

I have been working at Gnip full-time for more than 4 years

      Pros

Being surrounded by competent, caring people who leave their egos at the door. Being trusted to do the job you're hired for -- no micro-management, and true emphasis on your personal well-being via work-life balance. I love coming to work every day.

      Cons

Really searching here... If you're the type of person who needs a list of tasks handed to you by your boss every day, this probably isn't a good fit. Also, if you prefer a secluded office / cubicle, the open floorplan may be a distraction (although I personally love it).

      Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing -- sticking to our values in planning and decision-making has served us well so far, and will keep us on the right track.

I have been working at Gnip full-time

      Pros

Respect up and down the chain of command; all the necessary flashy perks; transparency of goals, both accomplished and up-coming. This is a company that leads the industry in large part by allowing (and advocating) for its employees to flourish. The engineering team is made up of some of the most brilliant and compassionate people I've ever met.

      Cons

We're in a stage of rapid growth. This is really a make-or-break moment for the company in terms of fostering technology and culture that scales. There's really no room for complacency at this time.

      Advice to Management

Keep communication open. Fight for your time to be used up in meaningful ways. Engage with the code and architecture and continue to be aware when others have different or richer context. Stay helping everyone to be better.

I have been working at Gnip full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

Gnip is just a great place to work. A cool product in a growing space. Fantastic office and culture. Great people. Employees are treated like adults and if you identify an opportunity, you're given the ability to run with it.

      Cons

The cons are essentially all the things that come with working at a rapidly growing, venture-funded startup. Things break, process lags behind (by design) in order to keep things nimble, etc.

      Advice to Management

Keep the culture as open and transparent as possible as we grow, maybe even more so. It's important for the "rank & file" to feel a part of the future plans of the company and information about what management is thinking/hoping for/etc. is a big part of that.

I have been working at Gnip full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

If you are interested in working at a high paced, energetic company, then you are in the right place. Gnip is located in the heart of Boulder, CO with strong ties to the university, entrepreneurial, and outdoor communities. Beyond all of the great perks that come with being an employee at Gnip, there is a running club, biking club, gym allowance, local ski passes, and even Monday morning group hikes for those who are...

      Cons

For those that like cubicles and specific directions and protocol, this company is not for you. Gnip does utilize an open floor plan which encourages communication across departments and makes for a very open atmosphere. Gnip also expects its employees to be self motivated and step-up to fix pain points. If you are driven, self motivated, and enjoy a culture that promotes innovation and creativity, then there aren't...

I have been working at Gnip full-time for more than a year

      Pros

      - The company is completely transparent - Leadership has great vision and handles adverse situation appropriately - Leaderships gives employees autonomy and trust to know what to do and execute it but they guide with strategy - A great benefits package including: healthcare, 401K, 'take what you need' vacation policy, catered breakfast, stocked drinks/snacks, gym membership, ski passes, bus pass, bike sharing membership,...

      Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing. As the business grows maintaining the transparency and the great work environment may be tough but those are two things that are critical to having the quality of employees needed to maintain growth and culture.

I have been working at Gnip full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

It's no exaggeration to say that Gnip will be the best company any of us ever works for, ever. Every level of the organization does a great job (engineering, sales, marketing, accounting, executive leadership) and the success of the company is a direct result of that. We're leaders in social media delivery, and our continued growth and customer happiness are proof. There really aren't enough positive things to say about...

      Cons

The only reasons I can imagine you wouldn't want to work at Gnip would be that you prefer a smaller/larger company (we're ~50 people), or maybe you don't want anything to do with social media (?). I don't know. Most people love it here, and I think by and large we'd all be hard-pressed to complain/vent about anything (even in an anonymous manner).

      Advice to Management

Keep doing everything you're doing. You have an excellent balance between pushing the business forward, keeping tabs on what employees need/want, watching competition, thinking ahead for future hurdles/goals/challenges. All good stuff.
