    Cons

Like in many startups people tackle growth problems they didn't meet before. Be ready to have some patience when joining this company. Many things might look unorganized and chaotic, but it changes. Founders didn't have much company building experience, but they are smart to learn fast enough.

    Advice to Management

Try to fill missing company building and leadership gaps as soon as possible. Trust your people more. Delegate more responsibilities.

I have been working at Gnosis full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Great team: Smart and dedicated coworkers, good company spirit - Cool offices - Visionary products - Good work/ life balance - Educational budget - All employees get a token plan

    Cons

    - There was some strive among early employees, as the company grew a small number of people who were on board early expected to be made team leads, instead new (and better qualified) people were hired. A few people left the company, pro. IMO this made the company stronger, but it let to some of the negative reviews here. - Management team is inexperienced but as far as I can tell are striving to improve management... style and transparency - Company is fairly distributed - Decisions are not always followed through with

I have been working at Gnosis full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I see more pros than cons working here. In the past, I saw not up to a professional level of management and leadership, but I saw that the feedback taken from employees was worked upon and they improved. Several reviewers mentioned nepotism, but as far as I see it, all of the related people working in their positions are doing their jobs; also, ideas and critique is adequately reacted upon and dealt with.... Great people to work with: ethical, professional, and smart. Leadership is humble and striving to improve. They are open, transparent and ready to admit past mistakes and fix them. Trust and freedom for employees to do the quality job. Productive working environment (physical space, equipment, team culture). The whole company is working together to make the future happen and it is exciting to see the innovation coming to real life.

    Cons

Obviously, there is room to learn and improve based on past mistakes in communication and management, but I see a positive trend.

    Pros

Very smart team and management: There is a wealth of experience and talent few blockchain companies can match. The management and senior employees are pioneers in their respective fields. Several experienced senior officers have been hired in the past year to further diversify the team's experience. Well-funded start-up: Through a token sale in early 2017 closely coordinated with the respecitve regulator, the... company is well-funded with enough room to weather the current crypto climate and ensure the company will deliver. Friendly and polite working & team atmosphere: The working atmosphere is collegial, exceptionally polite. The company is hyper aware of gender-issues and has strict non-discrimination and anti-bullying policies (which some former employees and freelancers may have fallen foul of). Compensation and benefits: In contrast to many start-ups, the company usually offers permanent employment contracts. It also offers an unlimited holiday policy, supports flexible & remote work arrangements, offers a generous further education budget, a token plan for employees, language classes, and respect of family life/ work-life balance.

    Cons

The atmosphere may perhaps be too polite, which at times results in miscommunication between employees and management as to what is expected from them and how to remedy underperformance. There have been a few hiccups in the past in relation to this, which could have been handled better.

    Advice to Management

    1. Hire a few more stellar biz dev and marketing professionals to further Gnosis' products reach and monetisation. 2. Be more frank to employees on performance issues early on.

    I worked at Gnosis full-time

    Pros

Flexible hours and remote work. Educational and conference budget for all employees. Cool office with unlimited drinks and coffee. Well connected with the blockchain ecosystem.

    Cons

Not any of the products have roadplans or long-term business models. The company is organized in a way that doesn't create successful product cycles, people with product experience can see this even through their social media presence and the inconsistent presentation. Management style is confusing, they are also not easy to talk to. Nepotism is a problem and produces bad work.

    Advice to Management

Be open to help in areas where you lack knowledge. Do more research in usability, legality and business sustainability before starting a new project and hiring more people. Do not hire relatives, be pragmatic with what you want from each position.

    Gnosis Response

    June 26, 2019HR Manager

Gnosis believes that its employees are committed and give them freedom and flexibility to manage their tasks and projects. Management strives to present a coherent vision while taking suggestions from the team seriously. Management is usually physically present at the office and strives to be available even without a formal meeting through weekly office hours.. AMA meetings (when employees can ask management anything) are in place for anonymous questions and discussions. Besides, employees can always count on the HR as an avenue for employees to discuss concerns in confidence. While two-way feedback talks have always had a high priority, a formal performance review is currently being implemented to guarantee equality and provide space to development and growth. The process by which Gnosis products’ viability is decided is both deliberate and geared toward the long-term. Responsible fiscal management has allowed the company to avoid pitfalls common in the ecosystem. Instead, Gnosis has been strategically developing an interoperable product suite that contributes to each product’s success and user adoption. Gnosis has done due diligence and has taken the time to develop tools necessary for successful product cycles on an initial 1-2 year basis, as well as contributed significant research and infrastructure to the nascent Ethereum blockchain industry at large thus far.

    I worked at Gnosis full-time

    Pros

    - well-funded startup - salaries are OK - good office location - ability to work remotely - flexible office hours

    Cons

    - unprofessional: the work culture at Gnosis is not professional and evaluation is not based on performance, but rather on favoritism of the management, which is biased and unreasonable - Nepotism: Around 7 out of the company’s 45 employees are relatives or friends of the management, and they are all working in leading positions with very little relevant prior work experience. This creates a family business... atmosphere in the company and alienates the employees who are not family or friends, and severs openness and honesty in the workplace - Messy: no clear goals, no clear vision and no clear guidance. Yet, employees are criticized for not believing or following or contributing to the management’s ‘vision’ - No appreciation: employees are rarely appreciated or praised for their work, or recognized for it. The atmosphere is rather destructive to the employees morale, self-confidence and motivation. - Opinions don’t matter: The management constantly makes decisions that don’t make any sense without consulting the teams or taking their opinions into consideration. The management and strategy team do not make any informed decisions - Feedback is not welcome: There are feedback rounds held regularly but they are useless. The management only listens to feedback provided by family and friends. Any other feedback is not welcome. Going to the management with feedback about them or about one of their family or friends or associates might fire back immensely on you.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees more and take their concerns seriously. Try to understand the perspective of the other and don't put it down. Keep an open mind to people who disagree with you, and question your management style and guidance when you see employees struggling before blaming them for it.

Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback! Gnosis is always willing to improve and provide the best work environment to its employees. One of the core values at Gnosis is to create an open inclusive environment with happy employees. That is why we have worked very hard to structure regular feedback check-ins and a performance review process in order to provide beyond feedback rounds. We are especially prioritizing career path/development and giving everyone equal opportunities to grow. We are always open to listen to what our employees have to say. We provide many tools to have their voice heard from an anonymous suggestion box to dedicated management weekly office hours when management books their time to be available to talk to any individuals or team. The HR office is always open to employees to discuss concerns in confidence.

I worked at Gnosis full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Well-funded blockchain project (however, no one knows where the funding comes from—Gnosis' ICO (Initial Coin Offering) was one of the first of its kind, and did not enforce KYC (Know Your Customer) measures which will likely result in some sort of prosecution sooner or later). Offices are located in a nicely designed, newly renovated co-working space for blockchain companies, in the heart of Berlin Kreuzberg.... Founders are well-known and respected in the ecosystem. Generous education budget; language classes for non-German speakers. Extremely flexible working hours with option to work remotely and from home. Plenty of team events and retreats.

    Cons

Nepotistic environment: A significant percentage of the company is related. Family members have been offered positions without any prior relevant (work) experience. Opinions of family members (or close associates) are valued over that of their teams. Generally, performance at work is not an assessment criteria for everyone. What mostly counts is personal preference of the management, and that of their family... members and/or close associates. Neither management nor the majority of employees has experience working at a company. Decisions are made mostly by intuition. Neither Management nor team leads have any prior leadership experience. A team lead position is granted to either family members or close associates of the Management. Close associates of the Management tend to be employees who are loyal, who do not question any of the Management's decisions (because they do not know better) and thus do not represent a threat to their authority. Management and HR frequently ask for feedback, however do not act on it, and sometimes use it against those who raise it: Disciplinary procedures are taken against those who tend to speak up against the Management and/or their close associates. There's no company culture or common values—none of the people in leadership positions represent any values that could serve as guidance for a fruitful environment. Employees are neither supported nor challenged.

    Gnosis Response

    May 17, 2019HR Manager

We appreciate very much that you are sharing your thoughts with us! Gnosis finds that only through feedback and suggestions can we create a great work environment. To keep improving employees experience, we are always willing to listen to new ideas and feedback through providing many communication tools, such as a suggestion box, employee happiness survey, management office hours (dedicated exclusively to talk to employees and/or teams), AMA meetings (when employees can ask management anything), biweekly team check-in meetings, weekly standups, among others. The HR office is always open to employees to discuss concerns in confidence. We grew too fast in the beginning and we were inexperienced at building teams, resulting in discrepancies between desired and actual position for a small number of people. A more strict recruiting process has been put in place to make sure we are hiring the candidates that most fit our team and culture, but couldn’t reconcile everyone into the restructured teams. We are very sorry for your individual bad experience, but at the same time we are confident that this brought the team and company to a stronger position. We definitely don't make any distinctions between employees and a performance review and feedback rounds are being implemented to guarantee equality. Gnosis also provides a training budget to all employees to support their improvement and career development.

I have been working at Gnosis full-time

    Pros

Well-funded start-up (for next four years). Nice offices in good location. Good reputation in industry. Education budget. Flexible working hours and option to work at home.

    Cons

Management has little to no experience either working in companies or managing people. They make decisions which do not make sense to employees. They value the opinions of close associates over that of their teams. They do not take responsibility when their mismanagement causes problems. There is very little transparency and a lot of politics. They ask for feedback but don't respond well to it. Honesty is... seen as a threat. Expectations are not clear and feedback is not given directly. Obvious favoritism and nepotism. Employees are not respected equally and adequately appreciated. 8-9 employees (out of about 50) were let go or left in 6 months. Products are not clearly viable.

    Advice to Management

Hire people with more experience than you and trust them. Don't undercut your own employees. Recognize and appreciate employees. If your employees struggle, realize you either have a hiring problem or a management problem. Appreciate honesty. Take time to listen to those outside your inner circle. Don't succumb to political games. Take responsibility for creating an environment in which teams can thrive.

    Gnosis Response

    May 17, 2019HR Manager

Thanks for your feedback. Gnosis believes that feedback is a powerful tool that enables us to grow and improve as an organization. We've just restructured our teams in order to be able to evaluate their performance and help them to grow. We've also put in place a continuous feedback process that encourages employees to have discussion regarding their project challenges as well as possible team conflicts. In our first year, we grew too fast and therefore lead us to an incompatibility between desired and actual position for a couple of people. We apologize for individuals bad experiences, however made our company stronger. We suggest that you use our means of communication in order to give constructive feedback, like suggestion box or employees surveys. Also, please feel free to drop by the management office or HR office to discuss any matter that you feel uncomfortable with.
