I worked at Gold's Gym part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I can say that while working at two different Gold's Gym Locations within the Akron area, it started off pretty good...

    Cons

Terrible Communication between upper management and employees
    Poor Leadership from Upper Management
It's hard to enjoy a job when you are constantly frustrated with how things are run and you don't know you schedule .
To the point that I found out they cut one of my later night Group Exercise Classes due to low attendance (I maybe had 3-5 people because it was at 7:30 at night) and they didn't tell me. I found out when a member asked me why mt class was't on the next month's schedule.

    Advice to Management

They need to work on their communication, A LOT. You can't expect to have your employees to perform well when they don't know what is going on and are frustrated and the issues are out of their control.

    Pros

I have been working at Gold's Gym part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Supervisors are generally good to work for. Free membership for employee. Free membership for family member if you teach 2 or more classes per week. You are provided with free on-line training to help with your certification continuing education credits.

    Cons

Pay is probably about the lowest in the area for instructors. You never get mentoring or performance feedback. If your classes are well attended, that's all that management cares about. Turnover among managers and supervisors is high. Pay raises are rare. Studio accommodations are generally mediocre. Cliques exist among instructors. You will likely not feel a lot of loyalty to or admiration for the company.

    Advice to Management

If you truly want to have an excellent group exercise program, invest in your instructor staff and hire instructor coaches who will help with instructor development and create instructor camaraderie. Pay your instructors comparably to your competitors.
