Easy job, little no no raises

      Pros

Free staff membership valid at all Gold's Gym locations, plus discounted rates for 3 family members. 20% discount on drinks, supplements, and apparel in store and online. Easy job to pick up on. Can be a fun environment. Literally just a part-time job to get to through light bills, or as a second income. New company ownership is making a lot of changes to what was previously a very stagnant gym chain, so it's exciting to see where they take it.

      Cons

Onboarding is essentially trial by fire, but it's not difficult to learn the system. No commission on selling memberships, personal training, or stock items. Raises only occur during yearly performance reviews and are about 17-50 cents. Scheduling can be a mess. Openers and closers are completely alone in the gym for the majority of their shifts. Must stand the entire shift. Management is not always transparent about company updates, which leads to misinforming current or potential members. There's really no opportunity to move up in any way professionally.

When I left, management was going downhill

      Pros

Convenient location, nice equipment, gym members were as a whole very enjoyable to be around.

      Cons

I don't remember the exact specifics, but when I left I think there was stuff going on like delaying of membership cancellations despite repeated calls to management. The gym was amazing when I first got hired, but as soon as my boss left and got replaced with a (previous) boss, the dynamic began to change for the worse, to the point that there was a mass exodus of trainers. This was a couple of years ago mind you, so it is my hope that things have changed now.

      Great People, Good Job

      Pros

Loved working with my coworkers, got a free membership, the work was really easy, sales commission ranged from $5 to $20 depending on the membership

      Cons

Gym members are pretty messy and cleaning the weights after them was a chore, but not too bad. Customers who are upset about pricing are the worst part of the job, as they don't realize that shouting at you won't change the contract they signed.

      Pros

You have some flexibility in your schedule. When you are working steady, the income is great. Benefits for full-time are great. Free membership.

      Cons

Keeping full-time clientele is difficult in this pandemic-economy. Better be able to teach fitness classes as well. Need to be willing to make lots of phone calls. Lots of tracking paperwork.
