    It's a job

May 16, 2014 - Server in Algonquin, IL

    Pros

Meal plan was only $4 for every shift you worked. If you like buffet food it can be a good deal. Money was good during the weekends and busy days (you can make well above minimum wage). Nice to get paid in tips and many customers were nice.

    Cons

Meal plan was mandatory and you were told you can only eat once per shift, even if you worked a very long shift. Many customers would not tip since it was a buffet. Overall, you are overworked and not respected as a worker. As a server you have to: bus/clean tables, wipe down food bars, clean bathrooms (yes as a server if the bathroom is dirty you have to clean it), fill silverware/plate bins, and much more. Servers get less than minimum wage if you don't include tips and are expected to work at a fast pace in all areas of the restaurant. Tips vary greatly and sometimes you barely make minimum wage and if you don't make at least minimum wage, your hours can get cut due to "performance issues," even if the restaurant is slow. Many other employees (cooks, dishwashers, etc.) get paid less per hour than you do if you include tips and many are bitter about that (can't blame them, they should be paid more). Hours are irregular and your shifts are hardly consistent. Management is poor at best and customers can be very rude. Many customers do not speak English so communication with them can be difficult if only speak English. Servers tend to not work together on side work and tend to focus on only their customers. Overall, serving is only part-time and you only make $ if you have good shifts, and work as many hours as possible.

    Pros

Great treatment if you kiss up and just do everything you're supposed to do 100 percent of the time.

    Cons

Schedule is terrible and full time isn't available. They want you there 12 days straight with no day off. All staff usually has a second job somehow because the money isn't too good.

    Pros

The money is great and they will definately give you as many hours as you want. Benefits available to new hires but they dont tell you that

    Cons

They need bussers to keep tables turning. The restaurant is a mess because they expect servers to tend to peoples needs which doesnt allow much time for bussing tables. U will have no life. They work u 7 days a week and cannot keep help due to over working people
