I worked at Golden State Water Company full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Type of service provided will always be needed.

    Cons

Company continues to be too top heavy (executive management), and focuses too much on finance, versus employee contributions.

    Advice to Management

Because company is so top heavy with executive management, and there is also the perception by employees that they will always take care of themselves first, loyalty among employees is limited and morale is mostly deflated.

    Pros

The Company is regulated under the California Public Utilities Commission. It is stable and provide comparable benefits to its employees.

    Cons

The Company is under tremendous pressure from communities it serves to control its rate. There are several communities are currently trying to take over the water systems.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the customers and try to control your rates. Otherwise, there will be a domino effect when one community succeeds in take-over. The Company will have to reduce staff size and, eventually, trim dividends.
