I have been working at Golder Associates full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Talented consultants have a lot of freedom. If you like working in a dynamic/changing culture, this is the place for you. Good benefits - sick leave separate from vacation. You can accrue sick time over your career. Allows for full pay for maternity/paternity leave if you have worked here for a few years. Compensation package rewards those willing to invest in the company and top performers.

    Cons

If working in a dynamic/changing culture stresses you out, this is not the place for you.

    Advice to Management

Slow down a little on the change.

I have been working at Golder Associates full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Good work environment, team attitude, opportunity for advancement, and caring for staff’s well-being are just some of the “pros”. Golder is a great place to work - for those that are not afraid of work! The firm provides a career development plan for each staff and also recognizes and develops “high performers”. Furthermore, being an employee-owned company has several benefits.

    Cons

Sometimes you will need to log long-hours due to client demands.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!

I have been working at Golder Associates

    Pros

Create a path to make your own way. Company is for go getters, don't except things to be handed to you. If you reach out and make yourself available you will move fast. Plenty of work and opportunities to move around if that's what you like.

    Cons

Staff is strong with excellent experience and expect the same, if you are looking for a 8 to 5, 40 hour a week with a daily schedule handed to you, this is not the place for you.

    Advice to Management

    Keep it Up

I have been working at Golder Associates

    Pros

Fascinating work. Good collegial atmosphere in some groups and offices. Opportunities to do most anything anywhere in the world. Long leash given to hang yourself or achieve great things. Very pleasant work environment, despite all of the layoffs and turmoil.

    Cons

Below average pay. Below average health care. Poor stock valuation and performance. Layoff decisions based on current economics, not necessarily long-term profitability. Most of the B of D are not really qualified to provide oversight and carry out typical Board tasks. Too much slacking off among the consulting staff and a bloated support staff (that has been significantly reduced, at least in North America - good...

    Advice to Management

Please all resign (with exception of CEO) now and get some qualifiednon- Yes Men (and women) onto the Board and into the management. Golder needs real independent thinking at the moment, not yes-men.

I have been working at Golder Associates full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

    Good job opportunities, good benefits

    Cons

Senior control from Principals and Associates weakens business and leads to an outdated management system where ability is not rewarded so much as longevity and alignment with powerful seniors.

    Advice to Management

Remove P&A system and renegotiate share holding system with owners/shareholders.

I have been working at Golder Associates full-time

    Pros

Flexible job schedule, great clients, technical community is expansive and offers a lot of resources in several different practice areas.

    Cons

Management, mediocre salary,work/home life balance, health insurance is expensive. Employee-owned but doesn't feel like it anymore. Company is too top-heavy. No appreciation for hard work. No mentoring.

    Advice to Management

I am a long-term employee at Golder. I enjoyed working for this company until about four years ago when the management in my region changed. The current manager lacks basic people skills and leadership skills. There is no appreciation for hard work. I chose Golder because the people and managers that worked here were smart, compassionate, and the morale was extremely high. The opposite is now true of management and...

I worked at Golder Associates full-time for more than 9 years

    Pros

Golder is an employee-owned company and thus each employee is empowered to help the company succeed. The culture is one of transparency where all employees are provided with information such as financial results and are afforded many opportunities to provide input to the direction of the company. The transparent culture of the company also benefits the project managers who have access to niche experts regardless of...

    Cons

Not too many cons -- Golder is a well-run company. Perhaps one con is that local management can sometimes exhibit a culture not consistent with the corporate culture that has helped Golder succeed for over 50 years.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what is needed for the company to succeed.
