I worked at Golder Associates full-time for more than 9 years

    Pros

Was a great place to work with great opportunity. Decent health care. Flexible schedule. Great experience for junior staff that can multi task

    Cons

Company went downhill quickly. The people at the helm ran it into the ground and the fix was to drive faster. The new CEO seems to be caning house and competent people are leaving at an alarming rate. Junior staff are piled on as the junior to senior staff is greatly inverted. 1to 4 in my early years

    Advice to Management

No sure the management can right the ship. Sell now while you still have some value

I have been working at Golder Associates full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

Great teams of very nice people, collaborative.

    Cons

Many changes in the past 3-4 years with the restructuring the entire company. Limited pay increases and difficult to advance in your career unless you are one of the chosen ones. Busy all the time! Slowly chipping away at the benefits at working at Golder (ie formerly great training opportunities, good benefit packages) but not commiserated for the reduction in benefits.

    Advice to Management

Find a better way to determine your employees worth to the company and pay them accordingly. I am underpaid and know many others who feel the same. Is it really necessary to re-jig the organization every 1-2 years? Figure it out managers.

I worked at Golder Associates full-time

    Pros

There is a lot of great team work and collaboration amongst employees on projects both locally and across border / regions.

    Cons

Mid level management has very little say in the direction of the company and there is little to no opportunities for innovation or growth. Turnover has drastically increased and unfortunately there is significant job dissatisfaction amongst employees.

I worked at Golder Associates full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

strong team culture and good benefits

      Cons

conformity prevails in the company culture. Little room for innovation and creativity discouraged. some education is highly valued but too much education creates problems for the companies business model.

      Advice to Management

open up the doors and let some innovative thinking in

      I worked at Golder Associates

      Pros

Some decent colleagues to work with who are supportive and knowledgeable in their respective fields

      Cons

Poor management, too top heavy, many specialist in science and engineering running the company with no business acumen. Poor treatment of staff, really changeability of timesheets focused. Sometime felt really under pressure if not hitting targets. Money driven when times got bad........

      Advice to Management

Get more business focused people in to run the company

I have been working at Golder Associates for more than 20 years

      Pros

Company success comes from very good technical people and high level of commitment, especially of senior associates.

      Cons

Lack of clear definition of company's core business and solid value proposition for different market. Weak brand positioning in many markets. More a global group of local companies than a global company.

      Advice to Management

Build a global and well recognized brand or sell.

I have been working at Golder Associates full-time for more than 9 years

      Pros

I've been with the company for quite a few years, and have seen many surges and dips in the economy. Golder is good in that you have the potential to do good work with high profile clients, and to interact with professionals both within the company and at client organizations. You also have the opportunity to learn from technically-accomplished people - Golder's brand attracts good people. There's also potential to travel...

      Cons

Below industry-average pay, extremely slow career progression, vague targets for garnering promotions and / or raises, often seeing others in different offices progress more quickly without justification (just the different management perception of 'worth' in those individuals), raises can be significantly more dependent on whats happening in the market or the operating region as a whole, rather than an individual's performance,...

      Advice to Management

Company needs to re-evaluate how to engage and reward staff, improve operational efficiencies (esp. accounting and finance), find new ways to become more efficient and cost effective when conducting business (not just eliminating non-chargeable staff and expecting those remaining to just be more efficient).

I worked at Golder Associates full-time for more than 2 years

        Pros

Some of the Technical people are very smart

        Cons

Management and attitudes are from the 1970s and have not moved on. Technical people are valued, but Project Management Professionals are not. Technical people are put into delivery positions and perform badly. Principals and Associates are all technical people and do not understand management or delivery or finances or personnal management or most other things that are required to run a business. They are focussed on...

        Advice to Management

Your technical people are good at technical stuff, but you need to value your delivery staff too. Other companies can do the work just as well as you and also know how to deliver on time and to budget.
