I have been working at Golder Associates full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Opportunity to work on interesting projects.

    Cons

Low pay, awful benefits, unable to retain experienced staff, bonuses mostly a disincentive, poor work life balance

    Advice to Management

Pay people more money. Associate heavy, and are all long-time employees, thus making up below average salaries through large stock dividend payouts. This means you're unable to attract outside talent with >10 years experience and retain anyone who's joined with more than 5-years experience. The result is graduate hires only and the constant brain drain. Associates aren't affected by the low pay and terrible benefits...

I worked at Golder Associates full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Good learning experiences, I had the chance to apply myself often

    Cons

Work became repetitive and boring, no reliable schedule, poor work-life balance

    Advice to Management

Treat employees with more respect and less like expendable resources

I have been working at Golder Associates full-time

    Pros

People are fun, salaries are competitive, work-life balance is very favorable, benefits are solid and employee ownership model is a gem

    Cons

Lack of diversity in ideas and prone to err on the ridiculous when it comes to corporate policies

    Advice to Management

Trust your employees to do the right thing - stop hamstringing employees with ridiculous policies and procedures.

    Pros

Decent pay, Work/life balance if you’re hourly. Good vision and dental insurance. Nice program for workplace stress, depression, need someone to talk to, etc

    Cons

Their management style and pretty much everything they do is old school. They seem to be winging everything and not interested in finding new or innovative ways to do things. It’s really sad bc there are some great people that work with the company but the people at the top have been their for 20 plus years and not interested in change or afraid of it. Make sure you do your research and ensure the office you’re at is...

    Pros

Large company with world-wide presence means that, if you've got the skills and the wherewithal to make contacts, there are opportunities around the world for you. Brand name in Canada and in several market sectors around the world. Diverse service offerings means there is a place for most disciplines. Company used to be good about letting junior and mid-level staff stretch their wings in different divisions and technical...

    Cons

Where do I start... The P&A culture has become nonexistent with the new management. We are no longer involved in the decision-making process in general, and the sense of ownership is largely gone. No-one has an answer any more as to why someone should become a Principal or Associate. Compensation and benefits, at least in the U.S. are on the decline with perpetual cuts that incompetent management communicates as...

    Advice to Management

Quit talking about "Golder culture". You've effectively killed what was once a vibrant and fun place to work. Maybe go back to focusing on what made it a fun place to work: interesting projects in interesting places with interesting people. Stop the slide towards commodity consulting. And recognize the ownership attitude of your employee owners rather than driving the company with just a cabal of the CEO's hand-picked...

    Pros

Employee ownership structure, "Golder Culture" (big company resources, small company attitude), and global footprint all look good on paper. Just don't look too closely at the man behind the curtain.

    Cons

The Peter Principle is hard at work in this supposedly flat organization. Talented technical staff are pushed up the project management ladder regardless of aptitude and interest, then out the door when they don't succeed. Communication between practitioners is terrible/non-existent, as is and semblance of work-life balance. Engineers/scientists with backgrounds outside...

    Advice to Management

Follow through on commitments made regarding improving the employment experience at Golder. Yet another revision to the Org Chart isn't helpful. Staff need to see meaningful change in the way they are treated and compensated. So far the new management is saying the right things, but has utterly failed to deliver on them.

I worked at Golder Associates full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

Good project and internal networking opportunities for junior and mid-level staff through the Golder Professional Development Group. Good comradery. Several technical groups to subscribe to supplement technical knowledge and stay connected to other employees with similar interests. Mentoring from senior staff, growth and advancement for motivated self-starters. Compensation time is a good incentive for junior and mid-level...

    Cons

As with most consulting companies, project opportunities vary depending on the economic markets (construction, O&G, mining, environmental, etc). Restructuring has affected morale in some offices, but the company is re-equilibrating and leaving room for advancement for some. Pay is average. Work-life balance can be difficult at times, but is manageable depending on the standards...

Not the best at integrating new employees into processes, engineers aren't the best to work no matter what company, new CEO so company is going through changes
