I worked at Goldman Sachs as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great people - some of the smartest and most impressive people I have ever worked with. Great feeling of the company, you really feel that you are part of something.

    Cons

Working hours are really bad and senior people do sometimes not have any respect for your time etc. Tasks are sometimes not very intelligent and you are doing a lot of grunt work.

    Pros

    Brand name/bragging rights. Compensation.

    Cons

Its an old company run by old people.

    Advice to Management

They need to find a way to build a relationship with young people entering the company. Almost everyone talks about leaving and doing something else.

I worked at Goldman Sachs full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fantastic colleagues - highly intelligent, driven, diverse and ambitious. The vast majority of people were incredibly friendly and helpful, particularly to new joiners. Plenty of opportunities to advance your skills/ knowledge through online courses, workshops, seminars etc. Amazing exposure to top-tier clients and plenty of resources to succeed in your role. Great culture and values.

    Cons

Long working hours. Standardized structures for career development - particularly for juniors there were limited ability to advance your career in terms of salary and title by showing talent and achievement. You need to pay your dues and do the years before you're eligible for promotion.

    Advice to Management

Review the promotion systems and consider whether there is room to allow quicker career progression for people showing extraordinary achievement.

I have been working at Goldman Sachs full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Most of my co-workers are great, bright people. Overall the structure of the company is flat, which means you can reach out and speak to people from any level (up to a partner). The working hours are flexible and they respect personal arrangements.

    Cons

The company could benefit from employing a 20% (fun-time) rule, similar to Google. I think many employees have good ideas for side projects which often get overshadowed by day-to-day priorities.

    Advice to Management

Management should provide even more opportunities for junior employees to make an impact. Also - encourage your employees to spend time on side projects as this could yield great returns.
