    Pros

Great people. Nice culture. Bright future.

    Cons

Pressure. Long hours. No lunch break.

    Advice to Management

365 degree performance review is very helpful. Flat structure is good. We need to further enhance the PWM division since it is not yet the best among the league table.

    Pros

Great name recognition, will push you to your limits. The company has a fantastic benefits package. The company seems to care a lot about the community (they certainly give their employees a lot of opportunity to get involved). There are so many experts. You will learn a lot and be very marketable if you later choose to leave the company.

    Cons

There is too much work. Sometimes being around so many smart people (even if you are very smart yourself) is a little exhausting. Sometimes people are a little cocky.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work

    Pros

To the outsider, the most attractive thing about Goldman may be the reputation of the firm and the doors it opens. Once you're in, you will discover that there is much more to the firm than that. You will have the opportunity to work on deals and with clients that other firms can only dream about. The place is a meritocracy in its purest sense - salaries, bonuses and promotions are 100% performance based, even for interns. If you are good, you will get ahead, regardless of how old you are and who you are jumping over to do so. The only downer is the difficulty in moving between divisions, especially to highly sought-after ones like sales and trading. Making the jump is very difficult even for qualified internal candidates who have demonstrated high performance. Ivy-league names matter more than actual accomplishments or capability at the entry level, and for experiences hires, past success as a salesman/trader is all that counts. This explains the fact that most traders are lateral hires. Finally, if you are in the Investment Banking division, work-life balance is a myth.

    Cons

Moving between divisions is very difficult, even for qualified candidates. See above for details.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. To middle managers, stop promoting internal mobility unless you intend to make it happen.

    Pros

I honestly think that people should pay to work at Goldman as an intern.
I would If I was able to. The amount of knowledge that flows through those offices is comparable to nothing else I have seen. Sharp people, with sharp pay, constantly coming up with way of improving efficiency and ways to make money.
The pay is great, they recognize people right away for their talents and immediately put them to work in what they do best. They are constantly offering training to their employees in almost about any topic you may choose. Even as a temp you are offered great opportunities. I was offered an Analyst job after a year of working in administrative jobs regardless of the fact that I did not have a Yale or Harvard degree, which by the way is the only thing they hire. It was an honor for me to be offered such an opportunity after seeing recently graduated aplicants (from those universities) go through a process of 20 interviews and still not get hired for one reason or other.
Working at Goldman gives you an incredible understanding of economic and political issues and I could almost say that it changes forever the way you look at the world.

    Cons

They are not flexible at all when it comes to family and work balance. they demand 90% of your time and soul.
It is very difficult to adapt to any other working environment after working at Goldman, that may be why so many people leave Goldman only to create their own business.
They are not very tolerant of mistakes, it is a high stress environment, depending on the position. Senior managers can be a little crazy at times and treat employees very disrespectfully, but only if they make a few hundred million dollars for the firm...

    Advice to Management

Keep doing whatever you are doing.

Diverse firm, with lots of opportunities available to you. Overall high level of competency, as compared to competitors, from entry level to upper management. Extremely devoted and loyal staff, who are truly interested in helping the firm as a whole, and in working together efficiently and effectively.

    Cons

    Cons

It can be difficult to move around cross-divisionally, depending on where you are coming from. They have a formal internal mobility process established, but largely due to the caliber of people they have, and the caliber of people they attract, it can take very long to more yourself to a position you want to be in, if it happens at all. Also:

-Long hours, which is to be expected at a large investment bank
-Takes longer to have ideas implemented as they are a large company with many moving parts
-Can take a while to learn the various divisions, to see where you fit in and where you want to go next

    Pros

Great people, incredible amount of knowledge in this company. Senior management is willing to help analysts out with no. Culture is very teamwork oriented and focused on diversity. I worked with people from all backgrounds and was hard pressed to find someone who wasn't unique. They really want you to work beyond expectations and deliver 110% on everything; the quintessential driving force of Goldman Sachs. Typically, every employee is respectful of the competition and rarely, if ever, downplays the rival banks. Also, employees are required to participate in community teamwork projects. These helped build relationships with co-workers and showed the company has a general interest in giving back.

    Cons

There are a few people who are quite condescending when you require information from them. Sometimes it makes the job harder to do and the goal of success tough to reach. Also, the name often goes to people's heads and they exude somewhat of an ego.

    Advice to Management

Make it a point to know your employees. I was on a team that was lead by a boss who knew about our group personally and it definitely improved performance/moral. Take time to ask about employees weekends, lives, etc. It really makes a difference and makes for a comfortable environment!
